With the Boys' powerful top-order failing against the likes of Brett Lee and Dennis Lillee, the stage was set for Graeme Pollock, arguably the greatest batter to never play an ODI from the List-A era and a man famous for scoring double centuries in the one-day format a good 40 or so years before they became the norm in official ODI cricket. He needed no second invitation, initially playing it safe for the first couple of overs before showing everyone what ODI cricket so badly missed in the '70s and '80s with a sublime hundred coming off just 86 balls, completely obliterating the figures of Saqlain Mushtaq and reducing Ian Botham to a non-bowling option for the day. After his dismissal on exactly 100, fellow countryman Heinrich Klaasen took over proceedings with a 70-ball 80 and took The Baker Street Boys to 287, which was actually impressive considering their slow start in the powerplay.
