Eisenhower Park was conquered at long last, not by Tendulkar, Pollock or Klaasen but by the man with the iron will in Greg Chappell. His low risk approach alongside that of his skipper Kane Williamson paid dividends in the end, as he finished the innings on a very confident note by striking the usually unhittable duo of Wasim Akram and Jasprit Bumrah for consecutive sixes each. This took his previously unremarkable 55 off 98 balls to a much more respectable 91 off 115 though he eventually ran out of time to bring up three figures. A potent bowling lineup consisting of Glenn McGrath, Wasim Akram, Jasprit Bumrah, Shane Warne among others was blunted quite superbly as the Boys finished with a formidable 281 - the highest score all season at this particular venue.

The task Karachi had ahead of them was by no means easy and was compounded further when they slumped to a sorry 38/4, even losing their batting supremo Don Bradman for just 1 courtesy a brilliant catch from his Indian adversary Sachin Tendulkar. Given the situation, skipper Ricky Ponting and Clyde Walcott did exceptionally well to put on 143 at better than a run-a-ball for the 5th wicket to rekindle their dwindling hopes, with Walcott smashing a stunning 109 off 101 balls which contained 6 massive sixes. But much like the match against The Savages in the round before last, he failed to rein in his aggression when a slightly cooler head was required and ended up holing out to a struggling Rashid Khan to give the Boys a clear shot at victory. They didn't miss, with Greg Chappell coming on and claiming the last couple of wickets to complete a stunning all-round display. Karachi are still very much in the hunt for a semi-final berth despite this loss due to their well maintained NRR, but it will sting nevertheless.

With little to play for except pride, the Deathwalkers managed to click as a bowling unit for the first time as their two pace aces Joel Garner and Mitchell Johnson wreaked havoc in the Pitch Burners' ranks with 4 wickets apiece. Garner proved absolutely irresistible and proved the hardest to get away, giving the Burners best performing batters in Kumar Sangakkara and Matthew Hayden a torrid time during his fiery spell. Meanwhile, Johnson despite proving expensive found his way back to his lethal best in time to bundle the opposition out for 245, doing one hell of a clean-up job with the tail to see the last 6 wickets fall for 50 runs which left an in-form Michael Bevan powerlessly stranded at one end on 28.

Chris Gayle busted quite early today, but people finally got to see the best of Victor Trumper at the end of a rather luckless tournament for the legendary batter with him finishing off in style by blazing 60 off just 39 balls in a vicious attack on the Pitch Burners' pace-heavy lineup. Trent Boult eventually got rid of him and kept his side in the match by making two further inroads during a spell of 3 for 51 off 10 overs which very nearly did the job. A deep batting lineup came to the Deathwalkers rescue in the end with key contributions all the way down to the bespectacled Daniel Vettori at No 8, who saw them over the line by remaining unbeaten on 30. It was the end of the road for both the Pitch Burners and Deathwalkers at the end of this game, as The Baker Street Boys, Savages, Karachi Dolphins and obviously The Undisputed Era progressed on ahead to the semis.

Explanation on pitch types
Damp/Sticky - Massively in favor of bowlers and an absolute nightmare to bat on, unless you're Victor Trumper.
Dusty - Plenty of turn on offer for spinners and a good place to bat for spin-savvy batsmen. Good pace bowlers are still likely to thrive.
Evenly balanced - Provides an evenly balanced contest for all disciplines.
Flat - A batsman-friendly pitch which provides little or no assistance to bowlers. Expect big totals.
Green - A lot of movement on offer early on, which makes it ideal for bowlers capable of swinging the ball. Batting expected to become easier as the match progresses.
Hard - Ideal conditions for batting. Good deal of bounce on offer for fast bowlers as well. Could go either way
Dry/Slow - Ideal for slow and spin bowlers as the name suggests. Sometimes quite difficult to bat on.
Poor - Uneven bounce and a huge amount of turn on offer for spinners. Expect a slow hard grind where most batsmen rarely score at above 2 an over.

Explanation on pitch types
Damp/Sticky - Massively in favor of bowlers and an absolute nightmare to bat on, unless you're Victor Trumper. Dusty - Plenty of turn on offer for spinners and a good place to bat for spin-savvy batsmen. Good pace bowlers are still likely to thrive. Evenly balanced - Provides an evenly balanced contest for all disciplines. Flat - A batsman-friendly pitch which provides little or no assistance to bowlers. Expect big totals. Green - A lot of movement on offer early on, which makes it ideal for bowlers capable of swinging the ball. Batting expected to become easier as the match progresses. Hard - Ideal conditions for batting. Good deal of bounce on offer for fast bowlers as well. Could go either way Dry/Slow - Ideal for slow and spin bowlers as the name suggests. Sometimes quite difficult to bat on. Poor - Uneven bounce and a huge amount of turn on offer for spinners. Expect a slow hard grind where most batsmen rarely score at above 2 an over.

I for sure thought it was buzzers for Karachi after that loss against the Baker Street Boys, but glad to have snuck it to the finals on NRR. Now hopefully, we can get our act together and play a little more consistently because I know for a fact that we have it in us to go all the way and re-do what Karachi did in LAB XI.
