Lehmann backs 'Baby Boof' for World Cup

LOL, Johnson and Dorey wouldn't get a spot in an English County team. They'd struggle to get picked for my school 2nds.

It's normally the players that want to go and play, just so they can keep playing the sport during the off-season. The only reason they wouldn't is if Cricket Australia didn't want them to (I think they've tried to stop Warney on a few occasions).

Personally I think the players are better off not playing cricket all-year round, it gets repetitive and because they are using the same body parts all year they'll end up getting stress fractures etc. Back in the day, a lot of cricketers took up baseball as a winter sport, just to keep them fresh and interested. Bill Lawry and the Chappells were all quite good at the sport, and many others IIRC.

You are kidding right. Dorey would struggle to get a spot in the English county team. Maybe Johnson but no way in hell would Dorey struggle. Just look at his FC stats.

He would but I feel we need to find a spot for our all rounder. At full strength our side would look something like
Katich
Gilly
Ponting
Martyn
Symonds
Clarke
Hussey
Hogg
Lee
Bracken
McGrath

As you see there we have just the normal 5 bowlers. If one bowler has an off day we may have problems. Unless Clarke or Hussey develop into handy options we need to drop a batter for someone that can bowl and bat. What is Lehmann's opinion on Cosgrove bowling as I notice he is giving him a bit of a bowl and he gave him one over at the death when the match was still on. That is showing some faith.

I'm not doubting how good Dorey is, as he's been performing brilliantly in FC cricket after a long break from the game, but it is quite difficult to get a contract to play for an English Domestic side as they have limited imports I think and you usually have to be right up the top of your national ranks. However he could possibly get a contract in one of the sides, and it's something that he actually may consider doing.

They imported Krejza last season so clearly they have no problem importing guys that aren't at the top of the ranks. Dorey FC record is outstanding enough to get him into a side if there is a spot.

Yeah I wasn't serious about either of them really, English domestic cricket is a lot weaker than Australian domestic cricket, but they definitely aren't the best options Australia have. Dorey is old and not good enough for international cricket, and Johnson is young and not good enough for international cricket. I know Johnson has potential and may end up proving me wrong, but, I'm only a young boy myself, so I suppose I've got a bit of potential in me too.

Tait, on the other hand, has actually done something. I wouldn't be too annoyed if the selectors picked him on potential, because I believe he'll be great.

Dorey and Johnson are good enough for English domestic cricket, that was more a tongue-in-cheek remark, but they aren't good enough to represent the top cricketing nation in the world.

That's only because we have more teams.

Still makes me laugh thinking of his days up at Durham. :D
