From Cricket Australia:
NSW batsman Matthew Phelps has retired from playing but will stay active in the game from his new posting as Country Cricket Coordinator with Cricket NSW.
Phelps, who was named the Blues' Pura Cup player of the year, racked up three centuries in scoring 635 runs at 45.35 in the longer version of the game.
The 33-year-old believes that by leaving the game now, he can go out on a high, having tasted team success in both forms of the game at domestic level.
"I've made the decision knowing I would have been offered a contract for 2006-07, but the opportunity to go out on my terms played heavily on my mind. I did not want to be one of those players who plays one season too many," he said.
"I'm proud of what I've achieved. In the last two seasons I've played a full season for the team and been part of our title wins in the Pura and ING Cup.
