I don't think either of my external hard-disks have a fan. As long as you don't plan to use them in a hot room and leave them on for days at a time writing and reading data all the while, you should be good.

However, my external hard-disks are both the "enclosure" types where I just put an internal hard-disk into a USB enclosure.

oh right thx sohum mate... i orderd mine and its got fan so no worries

NEED MORE HELP SO READ 1st POST AGAIN THX

mate, what is the processor you are using??
and which motherboard is it??

generally, all new m/b support 1gb ram easily...

The number of pins in a ram stick does not depend upon its capacity so yes, your motherboard should support 1 GB ram.

Of course it supports 1 GB ram you just need to know what type of ram is it. My guess is that it must be DDR ram.

You could try using the ram scan located at crucial. It's normally fairly good at identifying what you already have and what you can add to it.

yep i bought the 512 mb one and it was DDRSDRAM....
I checked on the net and i think ma PC which is Emachines 220 model contains PC3200 ones... that was what it already had at start it had 128mb one preisntalled, then i bought another ram 512mb just knew it was DDR dint know anything about this PC thingy?

So do i need to buy the DDR ram which goez with ma pc which i think apparently has PC3200 ram pre-installed or doesn it matter as long as its DDR

PC3200 is essentially the speed of the ram, it is also known as DDR 400. There are slower types of DDR ram that will work (but will slow the computer down), but the ones above it like DDR2 won't work. So buy PC3200 RAM. not anything else.

Tell us which motherboard you are using. Capacity of Ram/Memory depends upon your motherboard. and also there various types of RAM for e.g SDRAM, DDR and DDR 2.

We have a really old crappy packard bell in the house, back when a crappy packard bell with a 256mb stick of ram, a 2ghz celeron and a nvida 440mx would set you back a grand. Even that can hold up to 1 gig of pc3200 ram.

Yes because the number of pins in a stick of ram remains same even though the capacity increases. So it can be inserted in the same slot.

well i know the fact that ma motherboard can hold upto 2bg of ram and its ddr and it already had PC3200 one installed... so just wana know that should i just but PC3200 or can i buy any PC one?

PC3200 is the maximum speed for DDR RAM. So you should buy the PC3200 one because there is no point in buying a slower one.
