Misbah has quite frankly been the star batsman for Pakistan for last 8 to 10 months and after the retirement of Inzy and Pakistan not selecting Razzaq he has grown as a batsman and as a shrewd cricket player who understands game situations and adapts accordingly.

But Pakistan have been reluctant to push him up the order when it is evident that none of the top 4 batsman have been consistent enough. What do you think? Is Pakistan wasting a talent?

Remember he is not young. He is 33 I think.

agree^^ he should be made up to order and caring his age Pak team should let him play more cricket
trust me if appointed as captain he is more similar to dhoni
calmness in tense situation
cheers to threads:D

I think Shoaib Malik has been seeking advice from Ganguly. Thats why he is batting selfishly.

They really need Mohammed Yousuf to fire in this tournament, he hasn't scored more than 30 in an ODI against a big team since last year. Apart from that, they've got a great set of batsmen up to no. 5 and you really can't ask for much better form from a group of batsmen.

It's beyond Misbah ul Haq that is really hurting them. Pakistan have a long tail and that means their bowlers have to be sharp. India have Dhoni down at six or seven, averaging more than twice what Shahid Afridi does; same goes for Mike Hussey. Even a much more ordinary player like Dilshan has a good percentage advantage in terms of consistency over Pakistan's choice of 6-7-8. It's not just that these guys are top ODI players who can keep their team in a strong position despite losing wickets, it's just as much that such players allow their team to ignore a certain degree of pressure. Pakistan can't ever relax to the notion that Shahid Afridi is going to save them with a steady and composed innings. Even to finish off a good performance, you can't back him to bat for 10 overs. Even if he hits a few well, it seems like there is no time difference between one of his good innings and one of his bad ones.

I've probably over emphasised Afridi's role, but he is the point of comparison, a key player rather than a newbie. Pakistan obviously aren't intending to rely on him, having selected to have some batting down to Sohail Tanvir, but when the tail starts at six, these players have to be a lot more consistent.

no doubt misbah is a powerful hitter of bowl and a good fielder

It amazes me as to why the PCB Selectors select Shahid Afridi. What is he? He's nothing. This is where Abdul Razzaq would have been handy because he actually thinks before giving the ball a big hit and is a far better and economical bowler than Afridi.

Also, I think Mohammad Yousuf should take a rest from One-Day International Cricket and focus on Test Matches where we all know he is a top-class player.

Regarding this Misbah topic, yeah I think your right. Misbah should be sent up at 4 that is if Mohammad Yousuf takes a break from One-Day International Cricket.

Misbah is good at No5, IMO.

Also, he is one of 100's which PCB have wasted. :(

usy added 1 Minutes and 7 Seconds later...

he turned 34, 33 days ago.

IMO Misbah at 3 would be brilliant. He therefore would have the whole 40 overs or so to build his innings.

Why don't they send Younis in to open because a wicket is going to fall quickly anyway? That will then let Misbah go in at 3 with Yousuf at 4, Malik at 5 etc...

thats soo true. has there ever been a team where our pakistan openers have lasted. NEVER really bro. maybe we should act like sri lanka and india. india having ganguly and tendulkar opening before sehwag and gambhir and sri lanka opening jaya and sanga. so i think younis khan and maybe salman butt or younis khan and misbah will do just fine with salman coming 1 down.

lol I hope PCB don't read what you guys are saying, they do anything these days.
