He no longer looks threatening. He doesn't appear get the dip that he used to get and doesn't turn the ball as much as he used to and that is what I think has caused his recent downfall.

With another disappointing bowling performance of 1-115 in the Australian innings, is this the end of the road perhaps?

Well if we're going off that Australian innings, it is the end for Swann, Flintoff and Broad too. Jimmy might just keep his spot.

Monty outbowled Swann in this match so far, I do not think this is the end. The selectors have a hard time letting go (ie Harmison).

it is worth pointing out that his inclusion is virtually pointless against the aussies if he's expected to get top order wickets. He only got such an early crack at test cricket because he's a left handed offie and can move the ball away from the right hander. sure he has some ability, but that was the decisive factor.

of course 5 of australia's top 6 are left handed bats. Ponting, one of the best batsmen ever, being the right hander (and actually he did get him eventually) so monty would have a much better shot at mopping up the tail.

if he's good anyway.

the 5 out of 6 thing is really something they should consider btw. Sidebottom might end up being a lot more useful than would normally be the case.

Monty didn't out-bowl Swann as the figures suggest. Swann bowled better when he came on yesterday while Panesar still looked innocuous. Panesar's wicket of Ponting was also out of luck than good bowling.

ah well I did not see the play yesterday. I was refering to the day when Monty troubled Katich towards the end and Swann was throwing up full tosses.

Panesar did out bowl Swann during this match. Monty was threatening for a while when bowling to Katich the other day while Swann failed to find a good length throughout constantly throwing up full tosses.

Swann will keep his place for the next match as he's in possesion and its his first poor performance but Panesar is by no means finished.

Panesar or Swann are just not good, neither of them. Broad, Panesar and Swann should be dropped. keep Anderson, Rashid, Sidebottom and Onions. or you could use Swann as a batsmen at 8 who can bowl if they need him.

Monty's recent form reminds me of Bishan Singh Bedi (I think) claiming that spinners like him can be found playing in every gully in India...

I voted yes. By give up I think for the time being. He needs to develop his game. He seems to have only 1 game plan. He needs to have other plans of attack. He needs variation too. He hasn't really got a good arm-ball or skidder. Certainly no doosra - but that's not really necessary, so long as he has one which goes on straight. He also needs to be able to bowl slower and faster depending on conditions and maybe mix it up in the over a bit.

I think they need to give him time away and if he develops then look at him again. So discard him, but don't forget about him. He's probably still England's second best spinner maybe. I wouldn't play 2 though in most circumstances.

Also who outbowled who is irrelevant. Both got clobbered and between them 1/246 is unacceptable. Neither of them bowled any where near well enough. They were unlucky at times i'll give them that, but obviously didn't create enough chances.

Hopefully. I certainly don't want a man playing Test cricket who's not good enough to take wickets against Glamorgan and Leicestershire.

Swann struggled first up as well, but bowled alot better yesterday. If anyone considers dropping him in place of Panesar then they're wrong.

I dont think Swann should be dropped, like King Pietersen said, he bowled pretty well yesterday and he bats well too.

I think he should go back to county for the time being. He's still fairly young so he may well play Test cricket again.

Flintoff? He looked in reasonable shape with the bat and his bowling was full of fire and venom!
