Mourinho 'assault' investigated

Police are investigating an allegation of common assault made against Jose Mourinho after a Champions League tie.

It has been alleged the Inter Milan manager punched a supporter as he left Old Trafford stadium after his team's defeat by Manchester United.

Police have contacted United to request CCTV footage of the area and have confirmed a complaint has been made.

Inter Milan have denied the allegations, saying Mourinho had a "very calm post-game experience".

No way anyone hitting Mourinho should be praised. :D

The person he's supposed to have "assaulted" needs assaulting properly. He's obviously wound Mourinho up, so deserves whatever he was given and he apparently hasn't got any injuries anyway.

He's trying to make money out of a nothing story.

He was a Manure fan, so you can expect some stupid song or rant, although I dont support Mourinho's response, I cant blame him really. These travelling Englisn fans talk about being attacked by the home fans, but I really think they should stop "talking" and provoking them in the first place. When the real moment comes they always get their backsides kicked.

Bit rich for all these people to be criticising fans when they've no idea of what being a supporter is.

Anyway don't really care.

It's just a nothing story full stop really. No one got hurt, the fan was asking to be hit by waiting around for Mourinho to come out and then provoking him.

Taunting the opposition manager is the same as making racist chants or stabbing opposition fans? You are ridiculous, m_vaughan.

:D I hadn't actually read m_vaughan's post. "You can expect some stupid song". Yep, that's cos we support our team, notice how the team was clapped off yesterday? There's no relevance whatsoever, Roma fans stabbed 16 United fans last year, and then hijacked an Arsenal minibus and stabbed someone on their. Spanish fans made monkey noises whenever a black player got the ball in 2005. This is a nothing story, so the person shouldn't be claiming anything, but you can bet your life he didn't racially attack Mourinho or try and stab Mourinho.

These happen all the time in Italy, the fact that its such big news over here, shows that it's a rarity.

God, you really are a moron, aren't you? You let the fact that you dislike a team blind you to the fact that football fans being stabbed while abroad and doing nothing but supporting their team is WRONG! So, what are you saying? Opposition football fans should stop bantering (note I said 'bantering', not fighting) with each other? Yeps, that'd create a really exciting atmosphere at games!

Exactly. Taunting players/managers is part of football (within reason of course), but stabbing of opposition fans has no place in the game. At all. Under no circumstances. Got the picture, Mr Vaughan?? I mean, you speak as though the English fans bring it on themselves when abroad. Fact: compared to Italy, there's nearly no problem with hooliganism and English fans. And I'm half Italian as well!

Good point, I was half expecting the fans to get on the team's back yesterday, but not a bit of it!

I am not defending the Roma fans. But it surprises me how its usually only the English fans who get beaten up (everywhere). It might happen quite a bit in Italy, but certainly not at the scale as we have seen in European games. Strange because the fans there dont really bother that much about the Champions League, giving preference to the Serie A and the national team.

Erm, I think I'm right in saying that some Madrid fans got a bit of trouble when they played Roma a couple of years ago. Added to that, its more difficult for them to get trouble seeing as how they hardly have any away support. Something like 200 going to each domestic away.

That is so incorrect. Close to 2000 travelled to Liverpool for the 2nd leg, and even for the domestic games it something like that. I think there were more Madrid fans at San Mames than Basques.

Out of an allocation which will be at least 5000 or so, that's a pretty poor turn out still.

In fact Phil, I think the standard of support in Spain is far lower than the Premiership full stop. I have seen the Nou Camp half empty so many times for example, if Utd had a stadium like that, they'd pack it out every week, no matter what the game!

Seems that everyone going to Roma gets trouble, they've obviously got a major problem that needs sorting out (hello, UEFA, stand up at the back there!) God, if this was an English team, we'd probably get another European ban!
