MS Dhoni-Hack or Star?

He will perform when given chances. He has done well enough in Test Matches prior to this, and is forced down at 7 in ODIs where he can't get settled in. When he has time, like in the T20, he does well.

The wicket on which he got runs were good for batting .Its too early to say anything .

Yes, BUt I've been Dhoni get 2 Hundreds on Absolute Belters of Tracks that my Gran could have got hundreds on but yet his innings get hailed as fantastic and unbelieveable, You have to apply the same standards to the man your protecting to the man your disagreeing about.

It is useless to try and convince Cricket_god that Karthik may be better, because he is not going to change his mind. I think Karthik has not had the faith of the selectors, which is why he hasn't cemented his spot. I think Dhoni makes more mistakes than Karthik on any given day.

And if you don't believe me because I'm not a wicket-keeper, I don't believe you either; so you'd best go online and search for some expert reviews and you'll find much of the same of what has been discussed here.

I think both should get more chances to prove themselves so that we can actually compare who is better. It's very early to make a comment on Karthik as he's only played a couple of tests so far. We must remember that Dhoni played very well the test before this one. There is an unwritten rule in cricket that you usually don't drop someone unless he actually plays badly. Dhoni hasn't actually played badly so it'll be hard to justify dropping him. The selectors may give him another game or two and if he fails there, then I'm sure Karthik will come in. There will be a lot of pressure from the Indian media to play Dhoni as he's already become a star. I wonder how much that will affect the selection (shouldn't do ideally).

This is a good problem for India. Both players are actually playing well and it's a choice to see who's better. Unlike England where to be honest, there is no wicket keeper batsman.

I cannot believe you rate Kamran Akmal, He's the poorest on the Scene atm.

Hold on there! Kami had one-two disappointing series and you forget about his previous performances?

Yes but he saved that match as india were struggling at 200-5 and chasing 600 odd runs the pressure is what that counts.also do not forget the 47 he got in durban i rate it highly that 100 in pakistan .

funny how they forget opposing 100s

they must have forgot his 113

He says he is a keeper and comments that kamran akmal is the worst you can judge his cricket knowledge by this.

He did say "at the moment" regarding Akmal which when you look at his last year and half is fairly accurate. However if he was to find some form again then I would suspect woodywiss's opinion would change. As before his last year he was one of the most promising about, but in the last year has been the worst keeper in international cricket, no runs, and dropping absolute dollys. So if he picks up again then as I said I'm sure Woody will again reassess his opinion.

You talk about Dhoni and seemingly disregard possibly one of the stupidest moments in cricket history when England won the final test to draw the series in India. If it wasn't bad enough that he had just lofted a pointless shot straight to deep mid-off and been dropped, he did the exact same thing again all of 2 balls later! As the last of the recognised batsman at the time it really was game over the moment he did it, and helped to contribute to a rather shocking collapse by India in that session after lunch.

Exactly, If people paid attention to what I had said which was ATM then people would realise that It wasn't an opinion in general, He's alright. I did say atm.

That was Afridiesque! At least he hasn't done anything stupid since then which shows that he's improving. His temperament has improved and so has his wicketkeeping. You can't drop him now.

As I've said before he has come along way since then, but he still has some way to go, and his career will either live or die on whether he is able to do so.

Agreed. He was very good with the gloves and the bat during the Indo-Pak series. Not sure how he did in the Sri Lanka tour but I didn't hear any complaints. He really started struggling at Lords.

In regards to Dhoni, I think he will always be overrated by Indian fans, much like Brett Lee is by Australians, Shahid Afridi by Pakistanis, Ian Bell by the English etc.

He's a decent batsman but is very average behind the stumps, he'll always make runs on flat pitches when the ball isn't doing much, but much like most people who play like him (Afridi, Gilchrist, Gayle, Sehwag, Smith etc.), he will continuously fail on greentops (even pitches with just a little bit of seam movement) and in overcast conditions. He doesn't have the right technique or temperament for that.
