I downloaded the demo today hoping that BLC would be a game that would meet my expectations which are not in any way too demanding.

Firstly I would like to talk about the graphics, I am never big on graphics, but I appreciate them as much as a normal user. BLC's graphics are solid, sure they are a bit cartoonish but they did exceed my expectations. Without a doubt the most satisfying part of the game were the animations and just the ability of the game overall to run really smoothly unlike Cricket 05. I dont have a strong machine by any stretch but BLC ran as smooth as anything.

Let's talk about the main part of any game, and thats the gameply. I dont mean to offend any hardcore BLC fan's but BLC has not come close to meeting my expectations. The original BLC was a incredible achievment at that time and this current one fails to even match EA's Cricket 05.

I was reading some posts on this board argueing the fact that the lack of batting control with out the inclusion of Front/back foot shot selection and advanced shot is not a worry because of the stellar gameplay. I really tend to disagree in this regard, BLC has fallen a great deal jsut because of not implementing these absolutely essential features. Being able to use the front and backfoot are so vital even in real life cricket, the movement and correct use of the feet is what the coaches focus the most on. How could codemasters have not included such an important feature, A great deal of batting control has been taking away. I mean I was batting and the batsmen were playing front foot shots so short of a length deliveries!!!!! thats jsut ridicoulous, I would much have prefered to rock back ont he back foot.

This problem is increased by the non inclusion of the advanced shot!!!! This feature becomes even more important if back/front foot options are not included. I mean if a bowler is consistently bowling a good lenght, its very ahrd to put them away, you have to either take a huge risk or you come down the track to make it a half volley or distrub the bowlers lenght. That just cannot be done in BLC, But BLC makes up for that by allowing you to play good lenght deliveries with ease!!!! but thats not realistic!. Overall the lack of control on batting just forced me to dislike this game.

I will be honest, the batting in this game was like bowling in cricket 04. Just too limited.

I dont understand how anyone of you would say that exlcusion of such important features is not a draw back.

I dont even want to talk about the autoplay.

What did impress me although was the bowling, it was much more fun to ball in BLC then to bat, the bowling actions for spinners were great, but the bowling action for fast bowlers is jsut too dull, it has no feel of power, you get that feeling of someone bowling in slow motion especially because of the loop the ball has.

There was swing in the game but a bit too much, and the batsmen were easily able to play the swing which was rather odd. I felt it was fun to bowl spin more then anything because of good folwing actions especially the leg spin action.

From the first prevewi videos what I was really worreid about was the lack of bowling actions! It is so odd to see a Glen Mcgrath and a Shoaib Akhtar bowling with the same dull action, it completely takes away the realism. All the codemasters really had to do was capture a few more still actions of other bowlers, that would have been a HUGE step from before and would have given BLC a major advantage over EA's Cricket 05.

Overall the game seems fun to play but it just is too unrealistic for me to take it as a proper cricket game because its not. Codemasters should focus more on the gameplay aspects of the game before focusing on additional features such as hawkeye which was a great addition but other things could have been addressed instead of.

I am not a fan of EA, There games should have been at another level provided the state of thier company compared to codemasters. EA, cricket 2005 has just taken a graphical step forward, but I would pick EA's cricket 05 over BLC just because of the 2 features that BLC didnt implement, the back/front foot option and advance down the pitch. I can not emphasize enough how important these features are. It would not have taken that much for codemasters to add them.

no you can aussie1st, just select attacking or lofted shot to a ball short and outside off stump

oh i see, so you cant really make an error of judgement to a short ball
the computer does tend to **** it up sometimes and play a front foot shot 2 a short ball. whether that is implemented deliberatly to make things realistic (which it aint) i dunno

I have played both demos as well. I just enjoyed BLIC much more. I dont think a missing back foot button is a big deal. This is a game. You can make the same case for EA Cricket 2005 when you bowl a ball, you can only bowl certain types of delivers depending on the type of bowler you are. The inclusion of special deliveries when bowling is not realistic in my opinion. Someone like Wasim Akram could bowl 6 yorkers right on the stumps. Those of us who have played a lot of cricket will understand my point here. Maybe BLIC is just a refreshing change. I just had fun playing. We will have to see what happens in the next 3 weeks.

blic is defintely more arcarde style than cricket 05 and maybe why the batting is dumbed down a bit for new players to the game. Blic is a lot faster as well in the gameplay there is no mucking around in between balls at all. ea cricket 05 is at the other end of the scale i think it requires more skill to bat and is proabbly more sim like compared to blic. bowling I can't really compare has i haven't bowled in ea cricket 05 and in blic it seems to be bit of a challenge to bowl it without getting smashed but that will become easy over time I think.

ofcourse batting is easy, its only medium level and we are all skilled cricket video game players.

batting is much more realistic in BLC then C2K5

how can you still maintain that...................just prove it to me by playing a late cut.

After playing both demos I think BLIC is easier to pick up and play. After a few practice shots I was smacking 6's all over the park and think that I haven't played a cricket game since Brian Lara 96. Maybe a bit too easy? I know you can just put the difficulty up so it's not really a problem.

Fielders....who did the capture for the fielding? Superman? They never dropped anything in the demo, no misfields, no mistakes. Always perfect throwing aswell. Made quick singles pretty hard. I gave up running and just smacked everything for 4 and 6 in the end.

3rd umpire replays were terrible. The decision pops up on the left before we see the replays. Whats the point in that?

I don't think graphics are as good as C2k5. I know it depends what graphics card etc you have and I have a pretty decent one.

Hawkeye is good and lbw decisions when they're not out. Tells you why underneath etc.

If you're a fan of county cricket then C2k5 is the game for you. I think it might get pretty boring just playing with international teams.

I know you can add players etc but do you really want to go through every county team adding players?....Me neither.

Both fun games to play. It just depends on what you like.

I'll see how C2k5 plays for real but at the moment I'n not getting BLIC.

when i said batting is more realistic, besides the fact that a couple of shots aint there, it is. in cricket 2004 and 2005 there are sweet spots and if the bowler pitches it in a certain area, its very easy to hit a shot with the same stroke every time.

in BLC, with the use of swing, cut, pace changes and just mistiming it, you cant always hit the ball well. sure you can hit a fair few sixes but remember its on an easy level (medium).

real test will be if someone can expand the demo to include hard mode

once the difficulty level is cranked up only then we can tell whether blic hits us for a six

yeh dats wat i feel but so far im impressed though it aint perfect

I felt batting was fine. Seamers were quite tough to face-Flintoff, Gough and Ali's combined figures were 3/0/4/3! Withput that I had scored 29/0 off 3 overs...and I also only managed a single boundary off Harmison. I did take 17 runs of Giles though-Wd 0 6 4 0 6 0-and a couple of boundaries of Vaughan.
Bowling and Fielding were tremendous fun. I didn't manage to take a wicket(although I did drop two catches:)) but did beat the batsman's bat a few times.
Graphics were poor at first, but when the camera zoomed in as Harmison began to bowl it looked amazing! The CPU AI was good to, they mixed up their pace and line and lenth, and did change their fields.
There were misfields-the England fielders must have slipped up at least twice in the field, and they even dopped Gayle in the first over at square leg! I didn't take any singles, as I couldn't figure how to run. I did figure it out soon however...
The CPU bowled a couple of No-balls here and there, as well as a few wides.
A very good game, I loved it.
Oh yea, the third umpire was poor.
