Watching today's game between England and NZ so far, it is not dead. It is still very entertaining. You can still build an innings, which you cannot in T20.

I hope it survives, as I really like it.

You can't really build an innings in Twenty/20s. You can't bolw mesmering spells in Twenty/20. The game doesn't continuously to and fro in Twenty/20s. This is why ODIs are better.

of course its not dead you cant compare ODI and T20... we have been enjoying ODIs since we were born and it will always be entertaining...:happy

At this stage yes. If NZ fizzle those idiots that call themselves the ICC have more reason to trash the form. But yes ODIs are exciting and always will be.

Its better than Test though.

Opinions differ ofcourse but i certainly think Tests are number 1. Nothing beats a mental endurance game like test matches. The 2nd test between NZ and England was fascinating. One moment England had the momentum, the next NZ regained it and seemed like winning but England snatch it out of no where. Even the last match between Australia and England was as good as the others. But yes many get bored after an hour. I'm quite happy for all three to coexist.

ODi's have a real place in the game, and I hope they don't become too influenced by the Twenty20 game. Kevin Pietersen has proved that ODi's allow you to build an innings but remain positive and hit sixes. I've only just gained an interest in the ODi game, with England's recent improvements, and they're brilliant. Many people complain about the "boring" middle overs, but the middle overs were the ones where England started to attack and started to build their innings. A teams overall quality is also seen by ODi's, as bad teams cannot escape the 50 over games, and the poor quality will be shown, as seen by NZ today. I hope all 3 formats remain in as pure format as possible, cricket's the greatest game in the world, and should not be changed too much.

If the ICC ever used this place for market research it would be blindingly obvious that ODIs aren't dead. Give me a choice, I'd pick ODI all the time. It is very difficult to compare the formats, though. Each has something the others don't. Each format targets their own audience too.

Tests = purists
ODI = people looking for day out, tend to have interest in Cricket
T20 = people looking for entertainment, often don't like other formats

I think T20's should stay at the domestic/club/franchise level, and we can have a tournament like the IPL for a good month in a year and be done with it. I don't want to see International T20 series apart from the T20 World Cup.

ODI's own.

Tests > ODI's > T20s

Agreed and I thought yesterday's game between Pakistan and India, Salman Butt and Younis Khan also showed how it is possible to post a good score, even after making a slowish start. Something you CANT do in Twenty20. Also Yousuf Pathan showed how a good score in Twenty20 wouldnt be quite enough in an ODI game.

I have noticed a positive influence of T20 in ODI cricket though. Brisker starts, better fielding, and better death bowling.

You can't call the middle overs of an ODI boring anymore. (I never did, btw)

ODIs require you to play according to the situation. So you dont always have to have high scoring starts.

I do agree though that Twenty20 has had some positive influence in terms of having more positive starts.
