The ICC could have used the 1996 format as well. Each team having the same design on the kit.

I think that's a thing of the past now as all ODIs are played in coloured clothing and each country has contracts with an apparel makers

I don't see the need for home and away kits, as long as you know who's batting and bowling it doesn't really matter what the colour of the kit is. It's not a problem in test cricket so just because the kit is coloured why should it make a difference?
