They beat Chennai Super Kings at Chennai, so as to reach to the top position. Auction, opening ceremony, the last ball thrillers, super sixes, purple cap, orange cap, the big final, are few things what people say when the word IPL is pronounced. The Deccan Chargers upsetting Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore by defeating those teams when they were in a must win situation ended the tournaments for the respective teams. However this time around, the franchisee Deccan Chargers was terminated due to monetary issues faced by the management and Sunrisers Hyderabad is the new franchisee what is based at Hyderabad- what means Hyderabad is still connected with IPL with a different team.

IPL is just not cricket. Its a festival of Cricket.​

This time, the stakes are higher. With new names emerging out of world cricket, the entire cricketing fraternity is awaiting the auction of Indian Premier League, what goes in completely unexpected way. There have been instances where World Cup winning captains have been taken by the teams on their base price whereas uncapped players have been taken at high stake, around ten to fifteen times greater than their base price. This time, the auction will not be a time wasting affair anymore. The squads will submit the players they need prior to auction and its only those players, who will be auctioned.

The auction of the IPL 2013 was scheduled to take place in Chennai. The base prices of various players were announced, of whom, Ricky Ponting received the highest base price with Michael Clarke being the second most highest base price. Among Indians, it is Abhishek Nayar, who got fairly higher base price than all of the Indians.

Teams had option to send players back in auction pool and buy them by having a re auction, where if the owners felt that player was being paid higher than what he deserved, they could cut down his cost. It has been a pretty good move by BCCI. It has also ended up with lively auction with handful of Indian players being auctioned. The total players to undergo auction are 100.
