What kind of pitches do you think Eng should prepare for the ashes?

Dean Jones said we (eng) should prepare seamers, but i'm not so sure.

Seaming pitches would create movement but I dont think our bowlers are good enough to make FULL use of those kinda of conditions............take headingly against NZ (last year) for example. On a green top Nz still made about 400...................say if that were the aus batting line up, it would have benn more like 500+. THEN even if you do bowl well, i'm sure McGrath, gilly, kaspra/lee would do even more damage!!!!!!!!!!

On the other hand we could make flat pitches. Although it'd mean we'd have less chance to bowl aus out twice, they would also have less chance (even though they probobly still would). So that means more draws but I wouldn't care.......a draws better than a loss!!!!

hat do you thing the english groundsmen should do???

It's a conundrum, green pitches-Australia have world class seamers. Spinner friendly-Australia will have at least one top quality spinner. Flat pitches-Australia have great batsman.

I think green tops, because I think at least one of England's seamers will be on form (You'd have thought). I think Harmsion will be on form purely because he is at home and cannot suffer from homesickness. Hoggard and Flintoff (let's hope he is back) have been consistantly good.

If we have spinner friendly pitches and Gilo is not in form then we can't really turn to anyone else, as England will only have one spinner (bar Michael Vaughan, but he does not seem to want to bowl himself)

It aint the way to go for me, battings our strength, play to your strength i say!!!

Well if you're prepared to have your strength needing to make 400+ to stay in the contest, go ahead and make some flat pitches

Whatever pitch they prepare they'll be disadvantaged. We have greater seamers, greater spinners, greater batsmen

Yea exactly, its a damage limitation job for england if we can manage to loose the series by just one match then eng should consider that a good series

Whatever they do, spin is not the way to go. Warne gets loads of wickets on non-spinner supporting pitches. Giles will not really cause much trouble for the Aussies who have got the better of world-class spinners like Muralitharan, Kumble and Harbhajan of late. So I see that the English will have to produce seamers, for the most part. It is upto their batting (which, I thought was in fascinating form, according to the optimism in this forum) to stand the Aussie seamers. And they will need some help from the pitch to dismiss the Aussie batsmen.

A wicket which will seam ont the first day and spin on the last would be best. England can then bowl first, and Warnie and Mcgrath won't get any advantage:)

They musen't prepare flat stupid batting pitches as India.(I know they won't)

and if england lose the toss...

Swing friendly pitches. Not too sure though cos of the weather affecting swing.

Aussies are more of seamers .England have an advantage in Hoggard who will swing it the most in either team.

Not much though can be said but swing and sluugish pitch so that the Aussies dont just whiz past 400 in a day .That will have England out of the contest
