Player editor compatibility

I've encountered problems when I try to use Tom Hicks' player editor when I've installed the Forum team patches - the program crashes when I scroll to the forum team. Also (and this problem happens with a fresh install of C2K2) whenever I try to replace the primary commentary file the game crashes. I can replace the secondary commentary files, no problem, but not the primary ones. Any advice, people?

PS (As an aside, anyone going to start a thread where we can post Forum team scorecards, summaries, avgs, etc.)

Does anyone else have this problem or can you all replace primary and secondary commentary files using TH's editor?

Basically I want to know if it's possible to edit the commentary files for the county patch and not have it mess with the normal game. I've noticed I have to restore the teams when I want to go back to normal Cricket 2002 and again when I go back to the county patch, that's all, so was wondering if commentary is effected too.

But I notice this thread hasn't mustered up much interest, so perhaps I should just keep quiet and enjoy what I've got already - Richie talking about India and the West Indies when it's really Essex vs Lancashire! :saywhat:

You can edit the exe to read names2.pak instead of names.pak so that you can have different commentary for all three (or more) versions of the game. Just open the exe with a hex editor and search for names, the third one you get to is names.pak rename it to names1.pak or names2.pak (I have the Indian domestic patch so i called it names2.pak) and you are sorted.

Cheers for the advice! Trouble is,...Me no un-der-stand hex edit... :sorry: How do you get TH's editor to recognise which version of the game you want to....  -_- Ah, I seeeeeeee! Some sort of deal where you just open the appropriate .team file in the editor...But still far too complicated for the likes of I :unfazed:  Perhaps I'll just be a lazy s.o.b. as per usual and wait for someone to release the patch... ;D: Had an idea though while playing a game this evening: Using the comm file for Badani (India), you'd have a good basis to make a good comm file for R.Irani (Eng)...Just a (totally unrelated) idea. Seriously though, if you could set out in painstaking detail how to do it (so numbskulls such as myself can get it), I'd be most grateful. :cheer:

You open the exe (nationalleague.exe) in your hex editor.
Press Ctrl-F and the find box comes up
type in names; press search
Press F3 (next) twice to ignore the first two entries
On the third entry overwrite names.pak with names2.pak (I'll try and post a screenshot)
Make sure you have a file in your sounds/lists/names directory called names2.pak (If you are using Tom Hick's player editor it will have to be called Names.pak when you edit it)

To Iniyan:
Can you describe how to change the commentary without using Tom Hick's player editor (which is pretty useless most of the time). I'm trying to find a way of doing this through GAP.

hay can u tell me...

how i add my name in voice of cricket comentrytars voice... :OOO:

Record the file as a .wav (make sure it's not too big). You'll obviosly need a microphone and recording software.
Either use Tom Hick's editor or Iniyan's method to insert it in the names.pak file

It could take you ages to get the size of the wave file exactly right. The best way is to extract the individual files from names.pak. This way we edit the original files themselves, so there is no need to worry about the file size. To do this you have to rename 800 files ( yes, 800 ! ). You need not do those things. I've got the files extracted and renamed in an order so as to edit whichever file we want to. I'll put up the files in my site in an hour. I'll post here to confirm when the files are in.

Then, use Tom Hick's editor to put in the edited files. Say, you want to edit commentary for number 11 player of Australia, you need to edit a11.wav and a31.wav. Simple.

The other is putting the files directly into the pak file which shuld be done with utmost care. But, TH editor is just about fine.

Thanks for all the advice, colin and Iniyan. I don't have any hex editing software though... And 800 commentary files would mean a whole lotta repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat (you get my drift?) that I just don't have the life to give up for! Maybe I'll turn off the commentary! (has anyone ever done this? Perhaps it's the major glitch-causer in the game!!! Turn it off and all works fine - you get rain, the covers come out on the ground, all's tickety-boo! ^_^ Mmmm, in my dreams!)

You need to use a programme called soundforge. To be honest, it's pretty useless though.

What I have problems with is putting files back into the names.pak The files I've extracted often won't fit back in because they are too big for the space I'm trying to put them into.

Just record into the files. You could Goldwave for this. It stops recording when you reach the end of file. This way, you could fit the files because you are using the same file to put back in the names.pak.
