playing with keyboard

I have played the xbox version and got pretty good at it. Now I got hold of the PC version because of all the user made addons. How effective is the control scheme using keyboards. Is it neccessary to get a gamepad for the game?

Not really, I changed my controls to the style of FIFA Games.

So S is defensive, D is drive, A is Lob Shot, play around until you find it comfortable.
