Playstation TIM Format

Anyone know anything about this? There are numerous files in the .gob which are in this format (.?T)
I've attached some for people to play around with. Could EA have have the same graphics files for the PS2 and PC versions?

That would be strange, wouldn't it?? Why would EA do such a thing?

Some computer whizzs can illegally transform a PS2 format game into a PC version game. Perhaps EA created the PS2 version first and then transformed that into a pc version. When the procedure is done there is virtually no difference between the formats. But obviously if EA did do it they did it legally (with permission I suppose).

One would assume so seeing as they made the PS2 game...

Colin,

What program did you use to unpack these files to get the file extensions?

These .tim files are nothing like the old BLC .tim files? (I think that was the format the kits were in in BLC, but it's such a long time ago ;) ).

Colin,

I had a peek around those .tim files and they look promising. I had a look on the web for some info on them, and found that they contain colour pallettes and perhaps the picture itself, but I'm not sure. I made a quick program to look at the colours in the pallettes, and one of them had very "grassy" colours in!

i think we may all have been barking up the wrong tree with regards to the png files which are so easily editable. My evidence? If you look at the pngs which have the cricket ball textures on, you'll notice they have the EA Sports logo and writing on, whereas in the game, the balls have HB Studios logo on.

Also, after a lot of time and fiddling about, I managed this...

It is obviously a ball, but it needs to have a colour pallette assigned to it. I have extracted some other files to look like this (i.e. without colours) so there must be pallettes somewhere - either in the same file or in a different file.

I've found kit files too, but they are way too big to bother uploading. I have actually uploaded a low-quality jpeg of one in cricket2002.tk forums in the thread "Extracting files from *.gob using MultiEX, Good news" if you want to see them.

If anyone else has photoshop or programing knowledge or both, try to figure out what the hell is going on here!!

HB Studios are absolute bastards for making this game so damn hard to edit!

I have photoshop knowledge but not enough it seems. How have you viewed these? What I found strange was the huge variety of sizes in the extracted files. There were 9 or 10 over 20mb and 1 at 455mb!

Just a thought here. I could be barking up the wrong tree completely here, but is there a chance the files could be compressed twice? Ie. More than one set of compressed files within the gob?

I thought that, I tried uncompressing the big TIM files. Trouble was it didn't like the format.
I did manage to extract noname1...
3 TIM files and 2 .LIQ files!
 HB and EA

Interesting idea to consider, I wouldn't be surprized if that was the case because a lot of things have been tried that haven't worked...
Didn't EA say that the files would be similar and more or less be editable??

From experience don't believe all EA/HB promise ;) .
I can't believe they've made the game so hard to edit either. If they're going to release a bug-ridden effort then at least they could've made the graphics files and configs easier to get at. Modding and editing games is a major part of pc gaming, so prolonging the shelf-life of games. Surely they realise that?
Keep up the good work guys :) .

OK. Sorted.

Using multiex commander gives different filenames to things than multiripper. I use multiex commander so when I talk about files I am talking about those extracted by multiex.

noname2769 is a texture dictionary. Look in cricket2002.tk forums for a screenshot of it opened as an 8-bit raw file (Extracting .gob file thread).

This file contains umpire kits and player faces as lots of different files, each with their own header. If you look at the file in a hex editor you will see things like "umpx" "face2f" "face2e" "face3a" etc. These files are in .tim format, I think, so I am going to get a tim ripper to get the files out of the "dictionary" and have a proper look...

Even more sorted. I just made a quick program to look at the tim files. I'm not sure that they are tim files to be honest. Either way I can now view all of the files in the texture dictionary. The next step is to make them editable, which could prove VERY difficult indeed...unless they are in a common format that I can work out.

Here is a shot of one of the files viewed using his program.
