All of a sudden I'm having a problem with my printer and can't print.

When I startup, if I got to Printers it shows as offline. If I then unclick "use printer offline" it shows as online. However if I send a job to it it just stays in the spooler and cant be cancelled.

I've tried stopping the print spooler in Services and deleting the files in Windows\System32\Spool\Printers then restarting the print server, this clears the spooler ok but still no luck. I then uninstalling and reinstalling the printer but it's the same story, the jobs just stick in the spooler.

Selecting Print Directly to Printer rather than Spooling doesn't help either.

I had this problem a few years ago and I can't for the life of me remember what I did to solve it.

Any ideas?????

Which printer is it ? I had such a problem with a really old printer because it wasnt properly connected to the serial port. I dont remember having such a problem with the newer printers that plug into the USB port.

Try deleting all the printer ports or the one on which the printer is installed and re-install.

Thanks for your suggestions guys. In the end, uninstalling and then connecting the cable to a different usb port did the trick.

So, it was a port problem after-all, it should still work on old port once resetting it.
