My PC turns off automatically after running virus scans or other things which use a lot of system resources so I took a look at the processor temp CPU Cool reports it between 30 - 40 deg C but when I saw the temp in BIOS it was 90 deg C is that possible.

After seeing this temp I decided to buy a new Fan/Heatsink for my PC I wanted to know that when I removed the fan some of the thermal paste stuck to my hand and was off frm the processor is this the cause of overheating ? and If I buy a new Intel FAN will it come with thermal paste ?

Plz I really need help

The BIOS always tells you the correct temperature. 90 C is not good, it shouldn't exceed 70 C. If you buy a new heatsink it will most probably come with thermal paste.

My laptop used to get overheated a lot... infact using cpucool, i got to know the temp was about 85 C.

I was really shocked, and ran (not literally :p) to the nearest service centre... the engineer there told me it was due to dust, and also a lot of processes that were running on the system. he advised me to format and reinstall...

I did not format or reinstall, but cleaning helped a lot. the temp was down to about 75 C at the peak, and 60 C at the normal usage...

60-75 is still a bit high though. I need to research this whole temperatures thing.

But that was only happening in XP

In vista, (i havnt checked the temperature) it seems under control... 50-ish maybe...

I am planning to buy Original Intel Stock Fan ? and I wanted to know I have Intel D101GGC Motherboard so the fan which I asked supported socket LGA775 & My motherboard does have LGA775 socket so should it be compatible ?

Conroe temps should never exceed 60c, 65c maximum. To prolong your conroe's life, i never let mine go over 45-50c.

Whats your processor? Anyways your problem might be contact with the cpu. The heatsink needs to be very tight and it contact with the cpu surface, or it all goes to waste.

And yes, in some motherboards, the BIOS's do show higher temperatures. Use some softwares like everest, Thermal Analysis tool, or if you have a conroe then the best bet it coretemp.
