It must be said that they didn't lose a match with McGrath actually playing. As a note of triviality, the only two Australian sides that lost Ashes Tests with Glenn McGrath were captained by Taylor and Waugh.

As for Flintoff, the answer is simple
Pro: jack of all trades
Con: master of none
Although Flintoff is a player of considerable spectacle and definitely an above-average bowler, he is a player who in Tests very rarely produces an example of dominant batting or bowling. In one dayers however, there is little room for players to dominate a long passage of play through a single discipline and so, having two bites of the cherry, he is one of the more potent forces in limited overs.
