Sign-ups Prudential World Cup | 1983 | Round 1 Line-ups

You'll probably get an unusually strong side, featuring players with first-class averages of 50+ and no original squad members except John Valentine!

Now come on, wouldn't you of all people would love to see Canada beat a side like say India, who were god awful at ODI cricket back in the 70s? :p

yes. you can allow him.
Wonderful, thanks.

Wait, what? Kanhai and Sobers in 1979?! Okay, so you're giving the nod to a couple of guys, albeit legends who were long retired at 43/44 at the time ahead of someone like Collis King who basically won you the real life final. It's only a fictional tournament but this logic is just plain wrong even if it's within the rules.

@Mr Nokkaya, perhaps the rule could be amended to allowing those who played at least a year before this tournament to be selected? Or allowing anyone from even 1974/75 as long as they're not completely retired from the sport come 1979?

You should put some sort of criteria for the squad selection like from the particular decade for something like that.

i meant that players can be pickked from 1970-80 only

That's okay mate, but you really shouldn't allow teams to select players who are retired and well over 40 in 1979 to appear for their teams out of the wilderness. It's completely unrealistic and degrades the quality of the tournament. World Cups after all are more for the young and ambitious to capture glory for their countries, and not so much for those who are already a spent force.

Or why don't we also bring back guys like Lance Gibbs, Freddie Trueman or Wesley Hall while we're at it? They're all eligible under the current set of rules.
