Team History
Rajasthan Royals are the Champions of innaugral season of the Indian Premier League in 2008. They did not have big names in their side but with the help of youngsters under the leadership of Shane Warne they beat a rather strong opposition in Chennai Super Kings. Chennai would go on to win 4 titles in the coming seasons.
In the next 4 seasons, Royals did not achieve anything worthy as they got eliminated in the league stage itself. With Warne stepping down, Dravid took over the team. Royals eventually made it to Qualifier 2 in 2013 season while they were runners-up in the 2013 CLT20.
In 2014, Shane Watson lead the team but due to some below par performances the leadership was handed to Steve Smith. Rajasthan Royals made it to the Eliminator in 2015 eventually losing to the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Following the Lodha Panel Reforms, they were suspended for 2 seasons (2016 & 2017) for their owner Raj Kundra allegedly involved in betting.
Rajasthan came back in 2018 and their leading run-scorer in the preceding seasons, Ajinkya Rahane was handed over the Captaincy. However, his approach seemed too conservative for T20s as he gave away the Captaincy back to Steve Smith.
Currently Sanju Samson is leading the team and he alongside players like Jos Buttler, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal & Trent Boult will look to get their 2nd title after 15 years!
