Rameez Raja.. A real embarrassment for all in the commentary box!

Bumble is funny, not exactly classy. For me the best commentator in the business now is Ian Chappell. Amazing insight and understanding of the game. Ironically till 2007-08 Ind in Aus series, he used to be one of my most hated commentators, simply for his stupid call for Tendulkar to retire after WC 07. Since then, I used to take extra effort to listen to this guy, to see whether he regretted that on the spur call, and gradually I found myself liking the guy's opinions.
I respectfully disagree. Ian Chappell speaks as if he everything spouting out of his mouth is a fact, whereas probability suggests that the case is quite the contrary. He speaks as if he was the best batting-bowling-wicketkeeping all-rounders in the history of the game and knows everything about each of these facets.

Rameez Raja is a pretty ridiculous commentator but then, who isn't?

I think Sanjay Manjrekar is a pretty decent Indian commentator. He speaks good English and he usually knows what he's talking about. Too bad he's been relegated to Ten Sports.

It should be if you are commentating in English.
Yes it is a good driving factor but as I said its not the most necessary. I mean, his English is not THAT bad that you can't make out / have to think hard. Its the content that should matter, what the guy says.

There are a lot of Hindi commentators on DD channel and they don't know what they're saying either, even though their Hindi is so well.

He indeed appears to be spouting knowledge, but by jove, as one of the most underrated captains, and in my books one of the best captains cricket ever saw, I think he is qualified to spout those opinions. I still believe Chappell's era of the 60s saw Australian cricket team at it's best post WW.

Lol. DD? The only channel which allows mentally challenged guys to sit in the com box. Good social service, isn't it? ;)

I honestly think he is not being able to be quiet open while passing comments as he is a Pakistani nd any kind of wrong comment can raise the voice from the Media

Eeerm....but you really mean this?

In general Rameez is not too bad. I do like him, however he does say some stupid things occasionally. Case in point a couple of days ago, when I think it was Sangakkara, or maybe McCullum, who'd hit one bail with his glove and then knocked the other one off with the ball. Rameez "I'm sorry, he's knocked the bail with his glove there...it's quite clear...the decision (camera turns to big screen) has to be not out....and it says OUT "

Like I said earlier, as long as Harsha Bogle (sp?) is in the commentary box, Ramiz will still be one of the better commentators of the game.

I mean honestly, Zaheer Abbas, Ranjit Fernando, Russel Arnold, Athar Ali Khan, and etc no-names are still in the commentary box, I'm happy with Ramiz.

Agree with the points on the whole. but the talk about Australian commentators being the pinnacle of commenting is plain wrong. I've never come across such smug, self pleasing, biased bunch of ███████. Not even the Indians come close. Ch 9 takes the cake with the stripper in it in this case. The only exceptions are Ian Chappell and of course Benaud, but the latter is retired now.

Well here's how I see it: Every country has biased commentators, but at least the Australian commentators have a good reason to sound biased. Their team has won the last 3 world cups and has been the top rated Test nation for virtually all of the last 15 years. Their side has contained guys talked about as ALL time greats: Ponting, Hayden, Gilchrist, McGrath and Warne. Bevan and Symonds in ODI cricket. So at least they are a little more justified in their constant praising of all things Australian. But if you are looking for commentators who aren't biased, you'll be looking a LONG time.

Yes, while Ian Chappell probably praises the opposition players the most (along with Tony Greig) he often gets hung up on issues that really annoy him and he comes across as pretty arrogant and unshakable in opinion. It's part of a trend I hate in the commentary box among the older commentators in particular who tend to criticise captaincy a lot. Why put out a fielder here? Why not have a leg gully? Why isn't Simon Katich bowling? Bill Lawry is forever suggesting field placings (the leg gully is his favourite) and Ian Chappell is pretty quick on the criticism button for captains too. It is only the younger breed who even bother to try and explain WHY a captain is doing what he's doing.

But while occasionally Chaps annoys me with his hard headedness, at least he discusses interesting issues and actually knows something about some of the opposition players. As opposed to Bill Lawry, who for all the words he dribbles out during a game, none of them are enlightening or particularly interesting.

70s was Chappelli's era - well captaincy era anyway, he played a bit in the 60s. I think he's fallen in love with his reputation as a great captain a bit though. He often talks about captaincy as an art and while it's often interesting to hear his take, you get the impression he thinks he knows a lot about captaincy and that he fancies himself as a pretty awesome captain. But I guess it's hard to argue with him, he does have a good record. And his abrasive/arrogant nature that many find annoying is just the way he is. I think if he'd never captained/played Test cricket, he'd be the same opinionated guy, so it's not as though success has gone to his head, it's just the way he is.

rameez is good commentator thts why he is in ipl and even he didnt commentate in pakistan aus t20 game he left early.
i think sunil gavaskar is good but little mean and too much supportive to india in ipl if it was india playing than its ok and same with harsha bogle

speaking of commentators, can you see how drastically mr.ranjit fernando has improved?
hats off to him.he speaks so fluent english! may be the accent needs some improvement but he has done a lot of homework i suppose

ravi shastri has always been one of the top guns when it comes to commentary.
i also miss bumble in the IPL.he has such a wonderful sense of humor

Gavaskar is the best. (Indian commentator) Others are no-where.

BTW, how do you guys rate Tony Greig? I find him to be quite decent, and humorous as well.
Another thing, I don't know how many people here will agree with him, but I think that the English commentators are the best. Well, I heard plenty of English guys in that last Ind-Eng series- they were just great, and pretty LOL as well! I remember laughing like anything after hearing a particular sentence which most probably Naser Hussain (or maybe Graham Thrope) uttered during the test series.
