Well I have left my job last week and currently im doing a course of web devlopment and designing to update my IT skills. Im also planning to go in for MBA course and that's why I need help of Australian and English members in suggesting me some good universities or colleges for that.

Just for record I have done Masters In Computer Applications and have job experience of 5 years working in middle management. Rather than trust the concerned parties it would be nice to know from the members about this as you will give unbiased opinion and also know grounf realities.

I would prefer to go to Australia cos its sunny there and I hate cold winters.

P.S. I have got brochures of Deakin university but that does not even feature in Top 10 Australian Universities. I hear ANU is good.

If you want a good education then i'm guessing England will offer a wider range than Australia due to our long standing universities.

To be honest man, you dont want to ask a bunch on a forum about advice, you need to find out yourself by emails and looking on the websites.

If you want any information on top Uni's in England, PM me and i'll find out for you :)

It's not quite so clear-cut as that, Uni's tend to have reputations for specific subjects. I know Wolverhampton is supposed to excellent for Nursing and Drama, Loughbrough is excellent at sport, and so on.

I'd look at the Times and the Guardian's Good University guides, they'll let you rank universities by subject, so take a look at what you're interested in. These guides are far from foolproof, but will help give an idea of the better universities in your subject area. You can then research them closer from the university website.

The most important thing about University is the course content. They will all have pretty much the same name fr courses but what you learn can be vastly different, so try and find a module guide or similar on the website.

they say the Nottingham uni. specialises in computing and it...heard it from somewhere...it's in Engalnd btw

but it's always cold in scotland...ALWAYS...we have been gettin some really sunny days here in Leeds...infact the last week was all SUN SUN SUN...

It's hot at the moment. 5 degrees when I checked it this afternoon. The fact that we have had fog all day should be ignored. A perfectly pleasant day ;)

You get used to the cold after a while. You'll be in a T-Shirt and Shorts when it's just above 10, I promise you :)

North Eastern Illinois University is a fantastic institution for International students.

Michigan State University as well.

University of Cincinnati is fantastic for internationals as well.

This forum probably isn't a good source of information for such an important decision, but I think that if you're going to Australia, racism is more of a factor to consider than if you were going to England. Understand that I'm not generalizing anything about Australians as a whole, but there has been a spike in assaults against Indian students and it's not something minor, it's a significant issue facing Indian students in that country. If you're set on a university there, this shouldn't deter you, but it is a serious issue to consider.

Ignore Deakin, it is rubbish (at least the Waurn Ponds campus is, I can't speak for the others as I haven't been to them), there are much better Unis in Australia. Melbourne Uni is probably the best in Victoria, Victoria Uni is pretty good as well (I've only been in the Law section of it though, but that bit is great).

I can't say specifics in relation to IT universities (I'm looking in other areas so I have no interest in them), but you should be able to find a suitable course here, though don't rule out going away from the state capitals, many regional universities are quite good (I again couldn't name IT ones).

The problem with some of the bigger unis is that they don't specialise into many areas, you would be better off going for a smaller uni that specialises in what you want rather than going off which is the top one in the country. You would probably get a better education out of it from them, though there is more prestige involved with a degree from one of the bigger ones. Don't limit your options though.

don't come to England mate, any self repsect and pride will imediately dissapear the moment you set foot on our soil.

Come to UTas. If I'm there, how bad can it be?

On a more serious note, ANU is apparently good, but when I say that I mean that they go well on the rankings. You shouldn't read too much into the rankings of universities, the best option is to research them and, if possible, check them out personally. Obviously that is hard, given where you live. But, as I said, rankings don't mean as much as you'd think.

Thankx to all who have responded. Im doing my research on net for good options.

Thats the reason why I asked it here cos locals have the best knowledge. If you ask me about India I would suggest IIM Ahmedabad with my eyes closed for MBA. I would have worked to get there but that means I have to wait 1 year and I dont have that much time.

I attend the Melbourne campus of Deakin (in Burwood) and its fantastic, state of the art facilities.

But i agree, you have to pick a uni which has a good reputation in the industry you want to persue.
