Ronaldo, the millionaire slave

I'm sure someone is composing it as we speak! His popularity is sure to go down now, if he's calling Man Utd slave drivers!

That's how it should be, but these days, a contract means nothing. Fifa have to change the rules regarding buying contracted players, in other words, if a player is under contract, you can't buy him! Or at least put a cap on the amount a club can offer for a player, making it far harder to buy out of contract players. Something else they could do is make it OK to approach a contracted player, but if the club says 'sod off', then they should be forced if necessary, by Fifa, to sod off! So if a club's prepared to sell, then they can, but if they say 'not for sale', it means 'NOT FOR BLOODY SALE'!

Yeah a rule saying you can't attempt to sign someone who has 2 or more years left on his contract, something like that would be good.

Let him go if he wants to. No player is bigger than the club and in this case the player is what he is because of the club. He can go to madrid, for a nice 70-80 million minimum of course. Then we can develop into a much better side. United have a wage structure to. We are and always have been a real football club, just an extremely successful one so why should we screw it up with him. Look at the poll on red issue, when asked who they would rather have at then end of last season before all this started they sad they'd rather have Rooney. These are the people who actually know about united too, the people that matter.

I've been saying this for about 3 months.

Yeah, Rooney is the heart of the team, as shown by the results when he was absent last season. Ronaldo is probably the better player, but Rooney is more important to United.

I don't like the way Ronaldo has treated Ronaldo, he shouldn't be able to get what he wants, when he clicks his finger, rot in the reserves.

Well thats because your a Everton fan. :p

Hmm, I'll bet that you were a big fan before this happened Phil. This just shows you the problems in club soccer, when a player wants to abandon a contract like Ronaldo's, it's a pretty sad state of affairs. Not that it applies to every player, but it seems all too common from afar.

We dont care about AFL. Your in a football discussion you know so this should mean "hands off" just like Ronaldo but i bet his hookers have a hard time from that rule.

The article in the first post is right when you think carefully about it. We are led to believe that Blatter meant footballers are treated as badly as slaves were by the media - but its not what he meant at all. There is no bones about it, football is like modern day slavery. Players are 'bought', 'sold' and given 'values' in money just like slaves. Even Blatter wouldn't be foolish enough to compare working conditions of footballers to that of slaves.

Thats a very interesting theory. But I dont think thats what he meant. I think when he said 'slavery' he meant forcing someone to carry on playing at a team just because of a piece of paper.

But the blame lies on the player as well. They shouldnt sign such long-term contracts unless they are dead sure they will remain at the club no matter what happens. But I guess the longer the duration, the higher is the salary offered. In the end it comes down to money again.

No its just plain stupidity and quite honestly, offensive to slaves. How he is in control of world football I dont know? This is the person that said women should play in tighter shorts.

He's a hypocrite as well, having said what he said about the Andy Webster saga and how contracts should be honoured.

He's out for 3 months anyway;), so yeah, would fit in at Newcastle.;)

There are 15,000 of them for every team and situation so it gets boring. It was hilarious at first though

It is funny how Mr Blatter is trying to wheedle his way out of what he said, isn't it? So, when he referred to 'slavery', he was talking of the youngsters unfortunate enough to be picked up by a big European team?

If I was lucky enough to be any good at football, then being picked up by a big team would be 'dreamland'. Not 'slavery'.

And he conviently forgets to mention that he said the word "Ronaldo" in the interview when talking about it.
