This is something we have seen from the T20 WC most recently, but Shahid Afridi has done it for most of his career - rushing through his overs quickly.

As soon as he delivers the ball, 5 seconds later he is back at his bowling mark ready to deliver the next ball. I would say he would comfortably have the fastest over ever bowled in terms of time, but that's not measured so we can't say for sure :p

Anyway, what kind of effect can such a bowler like Afridi who makes it a point to finish his over as quickly as possible do to the batsman?

It has earned Afridi wickets using this tactic, most notably Andrew Symonds in the recent series in the UAE where Symonds was barely ready when Afridi delivered the ball (Symonds was out LBW).

Other than making the batsman feel rushed, what other effect could come out of such a tactic, and are there any other bowlers like Afridi who make it a point to finish their overs quickly?

Darren Lehmann was the absolute best at this. Got through an over I believe in 35 seconds flat.

I don't know about the quickest one but Shoaib Akhtar is definitely the slowest.

Andrewhall best in this he was so great. He bowl's one bowl and go back take ball from fielder and come's again to bowl he was great in this.Same as warne but he was spinner so it was bit easy for him but he was also great in this.:)

Dave Hussey was exceptional at this during the KFC Big Bash for Victoria. His ability to bowl quick overs helped Victoria especially when the opposition was chasing down a total. Ben Hilfenhaus I believe is also very quick for a fast man to get through the over.

Yes i saw it but his action is like that and hong kond super sixes was not a international tournament so it was easy for him.

I think its a massive tactic for a spin bowler to return to his bowling mark quickly. It gives the batsmen no time to settle, to think about what's going on.

Personally, its not something I do as a spinner. I like to see the batsmen thinking, because the line between thinking and over-thinking situations is slim.

But with Afridi's spin (He certainly is a spinning fast-medium bowler) and pace, the way he works is effective for him.

I'd love to see someone, after they've bowled, absolutely sprint back to their marker and steam back in. It'll be even worst if you've just hit the batter as well.

They could play the beep test in the background, as the overs go on they have to do it quicker or they get taken out of the attack.

Ive seen Raina and Rohit Sharma do that in,well the IPL.Worked quite well for both of them.
