Its the First Test of the Summer 2003 series. The deck chairs have been put aside and umbrellas are out. The first day was an ice cream filled sunny day at Headlingey, South Africa elected to bat and promptly set the hosts a daunting task. They finished the day just short of 600 runs and eventually declared on 615-7 with Rudolph completing his second unbroken double century in only 3 tests.
Then came a heavy downpour which has left a soggy looking wicket and England struggling. They have 155/4 at lunch and Michael Vaughan the only batsman to pass 50 runs. England's star man is still at the crease, but everyone else is captitulating around him. McGrath has just walked out for his second test and has got himself a good start and has 16 runs to his name.
But with conditions not waning at all, England are still 311 runs short of saving the follow on and only six wickets left to fall. Your performance in this test will be judged as follows:-
SUPER EXPERT - save the follow on by scoring 526-600+ runs, bowl south africa out for under 100 and win the match inside 3 days.
EXPERT - narrowly save the follow-on by scoring between 466-525 runs, then bowling South Africa out for under 150 and winning the match
SEASONED PRO - narrowly miss out on saving the follow-on by scoring 425-465 runs, then scoring 500 runs in the follow-up and winning the match by 200 runs+
PRO - miss the follow on by scoring 350-424 runs, then scoring 400 runs in the follow-up and (just) win the match
AVERAGE PLAYER - miss the follow on by scoring 300-349 runs, scoring 300-400 runs in the follow-up but narrowly lose the match after setting such a small target.
NEED MORE PRACTISE - bowled out between 200-299, then in the follow-up you are bowled out again and lose by an innings
