Simon Taufel gives himself out

The time has come for Simon , bye ,he is a great umpire with no doubts .

Just read this news this morning....:noway Will miss him as he was the best umpire currently around. Used to make decisions with almost pinpoint accuracy. Also a guy with a very calm personality. Hope he has a good life!

The sad thing is that at as Aussie we didn't get to see Taufel as much as I'd have liked. Big loss to on field umpiring, but at least he is there to help the umpires out as a coach. I'd say his calmness and careful way of explaining things will be of a great help when the technicalities of DRS and other rules are being discussed :yes

Just hope that his obvious lost to the world on-field umpiring does not turn out to be as bad as most of us think.

But thinking back along with Dickie Bird, David Shepperd and Steve Bucknor (at their peaks), Taufell i reckon has to be considered as one of great umpires of the last 30-40 years.

I rated him as an umpire, although these days are there many able to be poor and survive with DRS or whatever it calls itself?

aussies usually supply decent umpires, although I doubt Hair would get such credit due to controversies. One way to not be rated is be controversial, I prefer people who place more importance on their convictions (in respect of calling it as they see it) and less on not rocking boats. Hair rocked a big boat, the ICC merely placed the boat in 1" of water. (and apologies, please don't see this as cause to take off topic, I'm trying to credit an aussie in Hair, not make it about Hair)

Good By Simon. A wonderful servant of the game. I loved his demeanor on the field.

He is still very young for an umpire. With people like Steve Bucknor still going.

Was an awesome umpire.

It would be sad to see him go. But, I guess he must have made some plans for himself. A great umpire, respected world-wide. I do hope he stays in the game in some capacity as he would be a great asset to have around.
