Some queries

I have just completed the two-day trial, and I am very impressed with:

a) The number of domestic competitions available all around the world, and dual northern/southern hemisphere clubs for a player.

b) The merry-go-round of coaches getting sacked and resurfacing at another club/country is very realistic, also the idea of having to wait until a certain international coach gets sacked before applying for his job.

c) The detailed bowling plans.

d) Central contracts

e) Detailed player stats, the ability to sort according to stats, the filtered player search.

f) Transfer windows, and the ability to sign non-contracted players/overseas replacements at any time.

g) The building of your reputation as a coach, and its effect on how likely you will get the coaching job you are applying for.

My queries are:

1. For a game which has stunning off-field management, it's surprising that coaching, an important off-field aspect, is non-existent. There are no net sessions, and no coaching sessions to improve young players' technique. So do the stats of young players simply improve by match experience / over time, and by how much?

2. The bowling plans are fantastic, with options for fields, length and type of delivery, but why was an option for line omitted? Also, the 'short outside off' option for length seems slightly random, how was this conceived?

3. Judging by ball-by-ball information, even part-time bowlers can execute complicated bowling plans perfectly (length/delivery type), while bowling at minimum effort. So is the likelihood of getting a wicket the only difference between good and bad bowlers, and are all bowlers therefore equally capable of bowling variations?

I will add to my queries later. Mind you, even though factors such as physio, coaching technique, net sessions, and second XI teams are present in Cricket Captain, they are very shallow and primitive. So when Cricket Coach eventually implements such aspects, they will be far superior. I'm very grateful to the Cricket Coach team for the level of detail which is already present in the game.

We decided training was something that should naturally happen - after all no team would ever decide not to train.

Youth players improve mainly through playing first team cricket, although up to a certain age they will naturally improve - similarly, older players will naturally decline as they get older (depending on position, so you'll see fast bowlers decline quicker in general than a spinner).

It is finished and is being tested by Midas - hopefully it'll be released soon. I can't say more than that unfortunately...

Lets just appreciate the face that the patch will come out, and before it does be patient.

I see your point about training Glenn, though it is one of the best tings about the fm series, that you can train players and have a detailed training program that can lead to your own players improving. I would like to see it in the next cc if it is possible, would add to the satisfaction you get when one of your youth players comes good.

the only thing which is frustrating me is ive deceided to stop playing cricket coach till i get the patch as its not going to be compatable with save games, im back on icc 06 as im not too keen on icc 3.

i do think training aspects could be cool, i like to know how much players stats are increasing by and in the FM series it gives to a graph to show what the stats were and what they now are, this would be great in cricket coach, im currently writing down the stats of my players at the end of the season so i can compare them at the start f the next lol, you can tell whos getting better and worse like this

Why the hell do they need to test it? Do they even know what cricket is? (They could be US based)
To ensure it is still stable etc - it is fairly important as we don't want any annoying new bugs creeping in.

rabeta - I've not ruled training out, but at the moment we're focusing on other stuff.

lancashire666 - a graph sounds like quite a cool feature, might not be too hard to get in for any new versions.

I thought testing it was yours and ours job

And if they are US based, how will they know whats a bug and what isn't :p

Just added a couple of queries to my first post.
