Southland v Auckland (Ranfurly Shield)

Tough one. I don't want to bet because I can't see Auckland beating Southland but with these odds it would be pointless betting on Southland.

An odd of 0.55 is pretty good. But I don't know which team is ranked higher.

I looked up and this is pretty interesting:

'Round nine starts off with a bang when top-of-the-table Southland host second place Auckland in front of a sold-out crowd of 20,500 - with the rather large matter of the Ranfurly Shield up for grabs.

Southland haven't beaten Auckland in 39 years, and have won just seven of their past 51 encounters, but over the past four seasons they have broken all sorts of hoodoos on their way to becoming one of the most formidable teams in the competition.'

Yea the Ranfurly Shield is a pretty big matter, and Southland will definitely step up their performance in order to retain it. Should be a really good match.

They're the two best defenses in the competition, so it'll probably be won upfront, and with the goal kicking.

I realistically think Auckland have a very good chance of taking home the shield, we're starting to build up some momentum towards the right end of the season, having won three in a row.

I don't think the shield will do much up here however, I would have much preferred it if Counties had won it a couple of rounds ago.

If we don't win it though, Southland are likely to lose it in one of their next two challenges, against Canterbury and Wellington.

I put a million on Auckland when I was supposed to put it on Southland. Oh well, I would prefer Southland to win but now it wont bother me either way :laugh

Southland win 9-6

Great stuff Southland! Too bad I stuffed up my bet :laugh

What a match, that was an epic.

Too bad the result didn't do my bet justice. :facepalm

I just hope Canterbury or Wellington don't go and pinch it now...

Shield matches are just awesome. Everyone steps up their game and gives it everything. Always close and low scoring too.

Great thing of becoming part of history, since this was Southland's first win in 39 years over Auckland.
