With the World Cup coming to a close, we've seen enough to form our own Team(s) of the Tournament. Probably we can form a PlanetCricket Team of the Tournament based on the number of votes each player gets.

Here's mine:

Shikhar Dhawan, India: Gave India excellent starts and performed in the two most important group matches for India. Could've won the semis but threw it away.
Brendon McCullum, New Zealand: Constantly unsettled the opponents' best bowlers with his relentless aggressive batting.
Kumar Sangakkara, Sri Lanka: 4 consecutive centuries and the fact that he is still the top scorer despite quitting in the quarters says it all.
Brendon Taylor, Zimbabwe: Often fighting for a lost cause with little support, led from the front and put up excellent numbers.
Steven Smith, Australia: Having started quietly, has come to life in the latter stages of the tournament.
Glenn Maxwell, Australia: Gave massive boosts to the team in the death overs, often striking at rate of over 200 runs per 100 balls. Wowed the crowd with his outrageous shots too.
Corey Anderson, New Zealand: Has been a massive contributor to the Kiwis with the bat and ball. His knock against South Africa especially proved invaluable.
Mitchell Starc, Australia: Has led Australia's attack with aplomb, swinging the ball into the right hander as well as bowling pinpoint yorkers.
Trent Boult, New Zealand: Played a huge part in knocking other teams out with his pace and swing. Best bowler this tournament.
Mohammad Shami, India: Displayed a knack for wicket-taking, but also kept things quiet, with an economy rate of just under 5.
Imran Tahir, South Africa: Played a vital part for South Africa, controlling the middle overs with his stump-to-stump bowling and his extremely useful wrong 'un.

These are always hard, because again they're always skewed towards "most runs/wickets" vs those individuals who created opportunities or could shut down one end while the action happened at the other bowlers end...

Plus, you want. WORLD team in a World Cup. Here's my picks.

1. Gayle
2. McCullum (C)
3. Sangakkara
4. DeVilliers
5. Misbah
6. Anderson
7. O'Brien (WK)
8. Vettori
9. Boult
10. Starc
11. Zadran

12. Warner / Riaz

I find it interesting you put Gayle ahead of Guptill there when by all accounts Gayle's 200 was very chancy, unless the reason for that is because you want a more diverse lineup...

Yup, basically that. I wanted to represent the individual best performances where possible whilst still covering off nations as a whole that I think represented well in key matches. Plus I would pay good money to see the Gayle that showed up against Zimbabwe and the McCullum that showed up against Australia the other night going at both ends!

Plus Gayle gives me another spin option with that 5th bowler split between Anderson, AB and Gayle.

Perhaps a bit bowler heavy, and I accept that five South Africans may seem a bit much, but that is the side I would want representing my name.

Kohli? Dhoni? Really? I love Kohli, but he hasn't been good enough to make the team of the tournament. Dhawan and Shami, maybe. Can't look past Sanga or Brendan Taylor for keeper either.

A striking opener along a steady partner ain't a bad thing, I think. A McCullum isn't rare, it's often. Corey Anderson is a good inclusion, he has picked 14 wickets, also did useful and important batting down the order when it was much needed. That was a significant performance by an all-rounder, in stats and in winning a game. And search a reason yourself why I kept Boult and Southee in my team, it should be simple to know if you look around a bit. At least my team has some better additions than Kohli and Dhoni.
