Hi guys,

Remember playing the "Test Match" game with the little plastic fielders on the floor or the kitchen table as a kid? It's now an app in the app store called "Table Cricket".

Yes I have a vested interest, I wrote it, so I'll just declare that right now : )

I'm contemplating some other versions including multiplayer and leagues, so I'd love to hear some feedback. It's currently available for Apple products in the App Store, and I'm working on Android as I write this, but there's a free version you can play at tablecricket.com.au so you can try it out and give me some feedback / criticism !

Future versions might include the ability to customise teams and players, different camera angles and a multiplayer "challenge" mode. I'd like to know what people think and what interest there is in extra features. Any suggestions etc. also more than welcome !

Thanks for listening. Sorry if you found this post a bit "advertisey", I'm new in here and I don't mean to upset anyone!

Cheers

I must have played Test Match and Howzat for hours as a kid. Obviously Howzat was for when I couldn't get anyone else involved!

Did anyone ever play a game called Wicketz? Still got it and occasionally give it a playthrough with a housemate when the test mathes are on :)

Even if you're just advertising, it at least tickled some nostalgic memories :D

You should talk to Kurtz, maybe the two of you could collaborate and make something truely epic :)

Gave it a bash, I love how you've still got the old school catching feet, with the keeper having the extra two divets and the corners = 6 on the boundary.

Only thing is I now want to play the real version and desperately wish all my fielders weren't in pieces somewhere :(

I remember they re-released it a decade or so ago, and it had a bouncing ball with a different batting mechanic. It was a travesty :facepalm

Thanks puddleduck for the reply. I actually had the idea and started working on the "Table Cricket" app when I accidentally stood on the bowler that belonged with my kids' real set : ) You can still buy it, but yeah, like you said, the dynamic has completely changed. The ball is magnetic, the fielders are different, and the bouncing ball ? Well that makes it a completely different prospect.

The actual game "Test Match" in it's original form was a classic.. it really stood the test of time? we used to play it on my friend's dad's pool table? the cushions were 4 and the pockets 6? and his dad HATED it.. we were only ever seconds away from ripping the felt :) It was such a big part of my childhood that I felt obliged to make it into a modern app!!

I appreciate you having a look at it.. and thanks for your comments.

cheers
Greg

I'll definitely be downloading that. I've been working on a couple of cricket apps but not yet release-ready. You'll have to send me the name of your graphics person (unless you did them yourself).

Graphics were all done by me, except for the cricketer - I got a basic cricketer model from Turbosquid and then modified it to suit. He originally looked remarkably like Kevin Pietersen, and some versions of him still kinda do :)

I basically did everything myself - because contrary to popular belief there just isn't the money in making apps for a whole lot of expensive outsourcing.

Good fun though ! Beats working for a living ! lol :)

Especially cricket ones.
How expensive are you to outsource to? :p

Depends what you are after ! I see you PM'd me, I'll address it there : )
