There have been many players on the county circuit who have performed well for their teams, but a lot of these have never been given a chance to represent their country, most noticably Glenn Chapple. Also, there are players like Ryan Sidebottom who have been given limited chances but have yet to be recalled, despite performing well since. It would be interesting to see what fellow members think about this, so discuss. You can also bad mouth the England selectors too, which is always nice.:p

P.S: I'm aware that Chapple played against Ireland, but I don't class 4 overs due to injury as a proper appearance.

As a Kent man, I feel duty bound to say it would have been nice to see Dave Fulton play at some point in the past (according to Nasser's autobiog he very nearly got the nod). However the horrific eye injury he sustained a few seasons back ended any chances he had.

I would say David Sales is well up there. He is a consistant performer.

In the limited opotunities catergory I would say Usman Afzaal, he has been superb for Northants since moving there and has definately matured with age.

Of recent times:

Dimi Mascarenhas
Lewry at Sussex has been very consistent during our last 3-4 years of success.
Mal Loye
Dave Sales as above.
Jason Brown
Gary Keedy
Jon Batty maybe.

Ah yes, Keedy! I forgot about him. He has always been better than Giles IMO. Mal Loye I agree with too; He should have been in that ODI side ages ago.

Does anyone think that Rob Key didn't get enough chance to prove himself? Personally, I'm not a big Key fan, but I'm sure there are some out there.

I think he's had a few chances, but I think the selectors seem to have forgot about him.

They haven;t forgotten about him, it's just that th next lot of people given a chance, Bell, Cook, Shah et al have performed and he's dropped down the pecking order.

I have a loving of a good allrounder, and the two which have been seriously overlooked, one more than the other are

1. Ian Blackwell, and
2 Rikki Clarke

i think its almost a crime that, although Bell did superbly well today, i would have put an Allrounder in Freds place, and because I.Blackwell is out at the moment from sugury, Rikki Clarke should have been given a run out, he is a proven proformer and has only had about 2 test to prove it, and i know it says never to have player for the team, but he hasnt been given a fair enough run out.

Blackwell a bit more, but a few tests in India really dont show what he can do, he is captain of Somerset and thats accounts for somthing, his batting is good and he could maybe work on the bowling, but he is a good player and could maybe give the "king of spain" a run for his money if he was given the chance

Very good point about Clarke, I was surprised there wasn;t more support for him, especially after his recent batting performances, but as a big Bell fan I was happy enough to see him in the team, and he's proved the selectors right.......if we manage to bowl Pakistan out.

That's a big 'if'!

I feel sorry for that lad; He's scored 2 fantastic 100's and he's still not gonna be in the Ashes first 11 if Fred is fit. Which is pretty understandable.

yea, i reckon these two should be in the squad to Australia with Chappers and Keedy! then itll definatly be the !England Lightning!

I think that Mal Loye is a proven one-day specialist and still England hasn't selected him. No offense to Mr. Blackwell, but Mal Loye is awesome compared to Ian Blackwell. Given a few years Tom Smith will be the future of England Cricket (if he is english?)

Saggers never got enough chances,

Uzman Afzaal
Bihal Shafayat
David Sales
Kevin Dean
Ravinder Bopara

And Jon Lewis has definitely not had enough chances

Dmitri Masceranas

Mal Loye
