The Jonathan Trott situation: Depression or ECB cover up?

Quite honestly Block you have made the point more eloquently than Vaughan ever did. I think that in layman's terms Vaughan was insinuating that Trott wasn't depressed long term a la Trescothick/Yardy and just shat the bed.

My point is that stress triggered by pressure situations/long term depression/bipolarism/panic attacks/migranes/agrophobia etc etc can all be considered, at least in part, stress related illnesses. To separate or rank these in order of severity is at best tactless and at worst insulting.

It's fair to query the difference between what Flower/ECB and Trott say but to attack Trott personally for lacking the stones for a fight, in my humble opinion, is out of order.

Totally agree with the above post. It's the point I was trying to make. Whether it happened overs years or over night doesn't make one bit of difference. For me, it's all a mental illness and Trott did the right thing by going home.

His interview just reminds me so much of Trescothick, who first came out and tried to say it was something different, because of the stigma associated with Mental Health problems. Unfortunately that still exists, which means certain people fear coming out and admitting too it. Which is a shame, because if a player like Trott had been suffering for years (Which could be true for all we know) it would be great if he could come out and say it and become a role model for people who struggle with this sort of thing. It would be great for him to show that you can still succeed in life, even with a Mental health problem like Depression

Bet Michael Vaughan feels like a right twat now.

typical ECB way to downplay graves comment..already the kind of flake that guy is receiving for making a simple statement is extraordinary do most of the journalist do laundry at clarke and downtown house!

The thing to remember is that Moores and Downton can mutter about "out of context" all they like but Graves gave 3 separate interviews saying the same thing and ultimately he is their boss.

If Trott's issues are being managed (I don't think its something that can ever be eliminated) and if he thinks that he's in for the long term then I think that he'd be valuable in the England team, although as a 3 rather than opener. He is one of I think two England players to average over 50 in ODIs but I wouldn't slot him in there since I don't think he'll be playing in four years and I think that we need proper rebuilding and thus should get rid of most players who definitely won't be there in 2019. Saying that he might prove useful as an experienced player in a young team, especially one respected by all. But for tests sure,

Although I don't think that the England dressing room has changed enough for him to be there long term; you'd need a supportive atmosphere that doesn't criticise and mess around a guy who struggles and that's not something that Trott needs nor something that I think exists.
