Good talents: C.Paget, N.Walker in patches.
Good original squad members: Moss, Botha, Sheikh (OD games only), Dean, Hunter is decent too. Sutton is an OK keeper-bat. Hewson, Bassano are useful too.
Great overseas players: BOOM BOOM Afridi! :)

Stubbings is poor as an opener for me. Hewson and Afridi currently open the innings for me in the second season, as there aren't any better players.

Good to see Afridi in your team. Can he really be utilised effectively as an opener? I always bat him lower down the order for Lancs as he isn't suited to opening in English conditions- Would like your opinions on the matter though.

However, Afridi truly is a destructive batsman in both forms of the game, no matter where you bat him. I always have him on two bars off maximum aggression, and this approach often pays off- I once had him hit Gough for 6 fours in a row! His batting alone is enough to win a match, especially in the limited overs version of the game.

His bowling can't be underestimated either. I signed him since the '07 season, and he was set to join Lancs after the World Cup. His performances in the WC were somewhat mediocre but he really came through and shone in the WC Final against Australia and single-handedly destroyed the the Aussie line-up by picking up a 5-fer! Received the Man of the Match award.

Following on from that, he formed superbly for Lancs that season by averaging over 50 with the bat in both forms of the game and in the 20s with the ball in both forms of the game. Next year in '08 he kept up the vibe and played a crucial role in the Natwest Trophy final by picking up four important wickets that saw Lancs win by 5 runs.

A true legend!

He is brilliant opening in OD games, not working so well in FC games.
And he is a brilliant bowler. But my fielders keep dropping him! He averages 2 dropped catches per innings!

I'm ruling the Twenty20!
6 matches, 6 wins (Stading at 12 points to the next highest of 8), NRR of like 4. Brilliant :)
With the ball: All Afridi. He's been fantastic. Always under 7 an over, 3/17 in one game, 4/22 in another, 4/27 in yet another, just brilliant. Botha has been very tight too. Hunter and Dean have kept the RR below 9, picking up the odd wicket. Vs. Nottinghamshire, Hunter took 2 wickets in his first over, 2 play and misses to start the second, followed by another 3rd ball. 2-0-7-3 and finished with 4/33. Dean's been ok. North took 3 wickets in one game to single-handedly turn it around. TThe first 3 or so wins in the T20 were squeakers, one was were they needed 7 off the last over, like 6 wickets in hand. They were cruising at one point, but North took his 3 wickets and there was a new allrounder at one end and Sayers on 70 odd on the other. Moss had bowled one over for 6. So, with no one else, I took the risk and gave him the ball. First ball was a dot, second a single to Sayers (Who moved on to 79). Then the allrounder. 4 balls, 6 needed. A dot ball, then a two. 4 in two. He swings and misses. 4 needed off the last ball, and...
Hit straight to the fielder! Dot ball and a 3 run victory!
Batting: North and Bassano have 2 fifties each. Moss has some useful innings, slow ones but handy since he comes in late and tries to prevent collapses. Afridi has a lot of 20+ scores, but only one fifty off 30 balls, which featured an opening over which read 4 4 4 4 2 4!! (Screenie below)! But hasn't gone on to build any big knocks. Hewson has some decent knocks, Goddard hasn't done much in limited chances, Botha has clubbed a few fours when needed. French did OK, a suprising 39 off 27 in one match, but not much in other innings. But bowling-allrounder Ford (Youth) has been a suprise. I gave him a few FC games a while back, two 40+ scores (One which included 2 sixes and 5 fours, at one stage in that he was 35 off 22), a 30+ and a low score. So he suprised me since he didn't score much in OD games, and only took 1/175 combined in like 30-40 overs in both games total. So, I had him at three. He's been expensive in the T20, but bowled the odd useful over or taken the useful wicket, but his batting has been suprising. No fifties, highest of 46, but some useful scores nonetheless.
So, looks like I am improving. Season drawing closer to an end, I am hoping to win the T20 championship.
Next season, I'm dumping Spendlove, Sutton and maybe French. French has been...unsusual. When I least expect him to do well, he scores very useful and crucial innings (One was a 75 at 3 on a difficult pitch with very overcast conditions against a strong bowling attack -forget which county but it had RSA player J.Louw in it- coming in at 3), but when the pressure is on him or when he is facing bowling he is usually comfortable against (Spin) he fails. Has been averaging 35+ in FC, 3 fifties, need to see how well he does in the remainder of the season before dropping him.
Paget hasn't played much this season, bar a game vs. Sri Lanka. 50 over friendly, took 2/52 off his quota but had a dropped catch on the boundary by Dean which went for four, so should have beem 3/48. Not bad though, promise is there. At the end of this season I have to renew his contract, so depending on his wage Botha will stay or go. He's done well Paget this season, avg. 27 in Second Team, economy rate of 3.5-3.6. Not bad.
Havell, Lungley, Walker, maybe even hunter will all leave too.
EDIT: make it 7 in 7 :) I'm on fire!!

Good batting yaar; but I've found that batting Afridi at one less aggression bar than you've shown in the screenie will allow you to utilise him best! Also, you're absolutely right- Afridi's my most economical bowler in Twenty20. Make sure you keep him for a few seasons yet!

Might try that. he's struggling of late.
In OD games, I use him differently. 3 bars for the first ten overs. Then 4, then after a while 5, then 6, and by the 20th over I have him one bar from full. Works well, 3 centuries as proof.

So far so good. No. 3 in the National League in Div. 2, looking a cert to promote. I don't think I'll get anywhere close to promoting in the CC though, so am gonna experiment with Paget a bit, give him a few games and see how it goes.

from this, it seems Afridi is an interesting player in ICC game... but i have never tried him... Also i always choose Somerset though! ;)

Any England players in ur squad?

Nope. That's one of the problems.
Afridi and North (I think) are the only ones with international experience.

I've always played Derbyshire as I like the challange and I have to agree, Afridi has always done really well for me. He isn't great batting I've found, only getting 20-30 with the occasional 100 peppered throughout but he has always finished the FC season for me with over 100 wickets, normally between 120-130.

Benjamin Spendlove - Not a great batsman, has poor stats and all. I had lost the CC anyways, so I decide to experiment with all the players, give them all a chance, and I bring in Spendlove.
Did OK in his first FC game back, made a 30 odd and a low score as I lost by 100 odd runs. Second game, I decide to let him open because I didn't like Afridi opening -despite Boom Boom making a century the previous match- and because his preference was pace.
In all my dreams I would never imagine this:

Oh, BTW, the rest all got out as I searched for quick runs and just set them all one bar from full.

Nice. How do you utilise Afridi now? How many aggression bars?

(This should be renamed the Shahid Afridi thread!) :D

Still searching for the best way. One bar from full seems to do the trick, so I just stick to that. That's how he got his century - 80 off 69 balls, then I set him to three bars. Ended with 120 off about a 100 balls. Not bad.

Well, i dont know hw many ppl have tried with Pieterson. KP also has the similar abilities... where i used to set straight away three bars for KP and then after hiting few boundaries ( may be 2 or 3 ) i will increase one to it and similarly..

It worked excellent for KP in both test and ODIs :D Infact i have never tried full bars ( i.e all full ) so far, as i prefer one below the full and without full maximum also KP worked good!

So i guess same wud go for boom boom :)
