This is the same story as my other one just with a new story line.
Chapter 1: Heading down South
February 27th 2005
I'm currently on the plane heading down to Tasmania. I'm excited and scared at the same time so I decided to get my feelings down on paper. I'll probably keep track of what I'm doing a lot as this is a big part of my life. Right, well I better tell you guys what's going on.
I was at the SCG for trials for the NSW 2nd XI squad, and Tasmania were up there at the time preparing for their final shield match of the year against the Blues. The Tasmanian coach Tim Coyle decided to come down and watch the proceedings. I noticed him their earlier and was determined to try extra hard and I was so gutted to find out my name wasn't on the 2nd XI Blues team squad list when it was put up after a few days of trials. I packed my things and went to leave the ground when Tim Coyle came up to me
"Hi mate, I'm Tim Coyle, Coach of Tasmania your Matt right?"
"Hey Tim, yep that's right I'm Matt. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"I noticed you didn't make the team, and I must say I'm surprised. You showed real talent out their boy."
"Oh thanks, but it doesn't really mean much sorry, I didn't make the squad."
"That's where your wrong. I watched every day of the trials and I'm convinced your good enough. I was keeping a close eye on you and Tasmania could really use someone like you. I'm willing to offer you a contract. Here's my number, call me when you have discussed it with your family"
And that was it. I didn't realise it was that casual. I was shocked, I didn't know what to do. Moving to Tasmania meant I had to leave my family because I doubt they would want to move away. I was currently in an apartment, but I only just moved in their not too long ago. I was close to all my relatives their as well. As a 19 year old moving down to Tasmania and not knowing anyone was a big risk. For a week I discussed it with my family before I decided I will take the move. It was my best option if I wanted to excel at cricket and my parents agreed. So that was it, I'm on my way down to Tasmania, on the same plane the Tasmanian players are in, returning home after their 4 wicket loss to the Blues. Tasmania finished second last on the shield table and last on the One Day table. It was going to be a tough life but I was looking forward to it.
