To help you, the reader, understand more about my journey with the Tassie Tigers, I have decided to write up little reports on on the matches that involve other states.

Queensland v Victoria @ the 'Gabba

The Ryobi One-Day cup got underway last night when the Queensland Bulls took on Victoria in what was a thrilling season opener. The Queensland captain, James Hopes won the toss and decided to bowl on a pitch that had an unusual greenish tinge.

Ben Laughlin opened the bowling for the Bulls and struck on the first ball of the innings. He found the outside edge of Matthew Wade and sent him packing for a golden duck. Brad Hodge then came to the crease and shared a brief 33 run partnership with Aaron Finch.

Laughlin kept up his tight bowling and eventually trapped Hodge, LBW for 6. This brought Michael Hill to the crease. Hill (69) and Finch (55) then shared a solid 78 run partnership to take the Vic's score to 111.

Just when the Vics looked to be cruising, Nathan Rimmington came to the party and grabbed 2 quick wickets. It took a brilliant, fast paced century from Rob Quiney and a solid, supporting 30 from Andrew McDonald to take the Vic's score to 6/304

In reply, the Bulls got off to a solid start with Broad and Simpson putting on 33 for the first wicket. With his score on 22, Ryan Broad edged Pattinson to slip to give the Vics their first wicket. This brought Lee Carseldine to the wicket.

Carseldine lasted 2 balls before he was trapped, LBW to Quiney for a duck. 2 balls later, Quiney struck again. Hopes came down the wicket, missed the ball and was stumped well by Wade, who was standing up to the stumps. At 3-36, Queensland were in massive trouble.

The new man at the crease, Chris Lynn, struck a valuable 54 in a solid partnership with Simpson. Together, they put on 108 for the 4th wicket. Eventually, Lynn lost concentration and was bowled through the gate whilst attempting to slog through the leg side. Phillipson then came to the crease. He faced 8 balls before he slashed at a wide ball from Siddle and was caught in the gully.

At 5-162, the game was evenly poised. Reardon and Simpson shared 45 run partnership before disaster struck for the bulls. Simpson was run out whilst attempting to take a quick single to cover. He was furious with himself. His superb 96 had come to an end and Queensland were again underdogs.

The Queensland wicketkeeper, Ben Dunk, was the new man at the crease. He batted brilliantly to put on 35 runs with Reardon. With the score on 7-242, Reardon slapped Holland straight to cover and was out for 25. This brought Cutting to the crease.

Cutting and Dunk put on 38 runs before there was another twist in the tale of the match. Ben Dunk skied Siddle straight to fine leg and was out for a 32 ball 52 that included 8 boundaries.

This left Queensland needing 20 off 37 balls with 2 wickets in hand. Cutting and Rimmington added another 16 runs off the next 10 balls before Holland struck again. Cutting edged him straight to slip and was sent packing for 16.

This meant that Queensland needed 4 runs off 27 balls with just one wicket in hand. Holland had 3 balls left in his over. The home crowd groaned as he completed 3 dot balls. With 4 overs left, Queensland needed 4 runs to win.

Cameron White brought his strike bowler, Peter Siddle on to bowl the 47th over. Siddle bowled an over of fast, full balls that were bang on target. Cutting did well to keep each ball out. The over was a maiden, meaning the Bulls still needed 4 runs from 3 overs.

James Pattinson was then charged with the responsibility of bowling the 48th over. His first 3 balls were dot balls. On the 4th ball of the over, Laughlin skied the ball high to deep mid on. Aaron Finch had plenty of time to get under it. It looked as if the Vics had sealed victory. Unfortunately for them, Finch misjudged the ball and dropped the catch. Cameron White was absolutely livid. He kicked the ground in disgust as the batsmen hurried through for 2. Pattinson finished off the over with 2 brilliant yorkers that Laughlin couldn't score off.

With 2 overs to go, the Bulls needed 2 runs. Siddle's first ball of the 49th over was a fraction wide and Cutting pushed the the ball throughthe covers for a single. 1 run was required from 11 balls. Siddle bowled a deadly line and length for the rest of the over and Laughlin was unable to score.

Going in to the final over, the scores were tied. One run would win it for Queensland. One wicket or 6 dot balls would tie the game. White brought every fielder up to save the single. Pattinson bowled 3 dot balls to start the over. On the 4th ball of the over Cutting backed away and lofted Pattinson over cover for the match winning run. Cutting and Laughlin were ecstatic. The Victorians were absolutely distraught. Queensland had won by one wicket.

Hilfy is really beginning to stink as he hasn't had a shower since his one hour one on Saturday. Today is day one of our first match against Western Australia. George Bailey announced our team at breakfast. Here's how it went:

'Eddy, you and Cossie are opening.
Punter, 1st drop.
I'm at four.
Ev, welcome again to Tassie, you're at five.
Timmy, you're at six mate.
Butters, seven.
Krazy mate, eight. LOL that rhymes!
And our rabbits, Xav, Drewy, Hilf. You blokes are nine, ten, eleven.'

The rumor is that the pitch is a beauty. Plenty of pace and bounce for Mitch Johnson early and a beautiful batting wicket after that. It's not expected to spin, so I'm surprised both Xav and Krejza made the team.

Anywho, I'll write a diary entry tomorrow morning about the first day of the match. Anyone got any bets on how much I'll make? Or how many catches I'll drop? Don't worry, I'm not Kamran Akmal!

I like your style of doing the updates. It's not like one gets bored while reading your story updates. You try to build a good storyline which is excellent and the updates aren't totally serious, you try to keep it funny. It feels as if the events are taking place in real and that's how it should be. Excellent stuff, Tim! :)

This is turning out to be so interesting that I can't leave the thread without reading each and every single word. :D

Amazing write-up! Best ever! ;) :clap
