The "too much cricket" issue

Tennis and golf can be considered more global then cricket. I think the players should stop whinging about too much cricket. I mean they are paid hundreds of thousands and players like Ponting, Glichrist, Warne, Lee and others are paid in excess of a million per year while ordinary people work their asses of to earn every cent. My opinion reflects a fair amount of people on the foxsports poll. 60% of people agree that test cricketers should stop whinging about playing too much cricket as they are paid handsomely and the best job in the world.

Cricket still lacks in some countries.

Well if we got the US taking it seriously, I'm sure this cricketer would say its a "global sport". If we also get China then it would be as global as you could get a sport ;)

Well some of them deserve a break, what use to Australia will a worn out Lee, Warne and Gilly be? It's just like Dizzy in the Ashes last year, he was clearly worn out and England took him to the cleaners.

I would say probably Lee and Gilly should be the only 2 players that should be rested. The others should have no excuses and continue to play the games. But in fairness to the players I felt the tour should of been held in early May or late April so the players could have some time to rest.

In my opinion, I think that resting players is a purely internal matter of every country's selection panel and cricket board. Nobody can complain of too much cricket and yet want to play in every match out there. *That* smacks of hypocrisy because they want the number of matches to be reduced and by playing every match senior players block the path for younger players to come into the team.

I support the ICC's program. Obviously individual boards schedule more tournaments because of financial considerations, but in such cases it is *not* the ICC's problem to ensure that players don't burnout.

Rather the selectors should consider that an opportunity for bringing in new talent and fresh players to give more people an opportunity and build up a stronger bench strength.

More cricket should be seen as an opportunity to bring out fresh talent and give the seniors a break. It shouldn't be seen in a negative light.

It's obvious that the way some senior players fear excessive cricket is that they're worried about their own skins rather than worrying about their country. I'd love to hear the opinion of young players like SreeSanth or Munaf Patel whether there's too much being played. They'd give anything to play for India and would play cheerfully at that.

Some senior players in the International circuit need a kick up their backsides to remind them that they're not irreplaceable... Their demand for *less* cricket seems purely motivated by personal ambition ahead of the concerns for their teams.

I don't think the Aussies are afraid of losing. They are doing a fine job of winning themselves; rather, it is because of the senior players, and their personal ambitions, that this issue has risen.

you dont know man ashes is coming up

and all aus players are creating dramas ;)

just kidding ha ha

I think there is a bit of too much cricket going on atm, maybe a balance can be struck in between. Cricket also suffers from not having enough teams which leaves ICC and country boards always trying to schedule more matches to cater for the increasing money demands and contracts with TV companies etc.

Clearly Mr Ahktar is afraid of losing then :)

It's not just Australia, England themselves are thinking of resting players for the Champions Trophy.

I'll like to see a team go through what the Australian players have had to go through without complaining.

I think all the teams are bound by the ICC's contract with the GCC to send the best team to the ICC tournaments. This is why India were not allowed the option of sending a second team to that ICC Champions Trophy, with the sponsorship muddle. And besides, how selfish of cricketers to want to be rested for the ICC Champions Trophy. Is that how you support the ICC's "development" plans?
