This is how India became no.1 in current test ranking

Here is the joke that is the ICC Rankings. Now according to the official predictor, if aus beat Pakistan 2-0 they will gain 0 points and if India beat bangladesh 1-0 in the 2 test series they will get +6 points
International Cricket Council - Match Zone - Test Predictor

May be it's because the year is changing so Bangladesh's one of the big losses goes out of consideration(past matches get their worth reduced point-wise with time) and what remains is a few losses and series wins over WI and Zim.

At the same time, the match going out of India's record would be one where India would have lost lots of points.

EDIT: Also, the predictor looks buggy as the match count is not correct, every team gets +1 when you predict the matches. Eg: Aus get +4 in match count when they play only 3 against Pak.

The predictor is fake as we can clearly see.India gets 2 points if they win both tests but they get 6 points if they win only 1 match :laugh. We can see ourselves if these results really happen.

Ranking system is simple as far I know in ODI and Tests
A Team gets 3 points if it defeats team which is higher in ranks comparing to opposition team e.g SA has high rank than England so if England defeat SA they will gain 3 points and SA will loss 3 points.

If a team defeats the team which is lower in rank then they will gain only 2 points and other team will loss 2 points e.g If SA beats England then they will gain only 2 points and England will loss 2 points.

I am sure that this ranking system works with winning teams but I am not sure about losing teams.

The predictor is fake as we can clearly see.

It can't be fake as its on official ICC site.

Moreover, I found out that '+1' to match count isn't actually a bug but a 'series bonus'. So, all you can do is blame the algorithm behind it.

^ Australia lost 8 points for losing the last Ashes Test, WTF??!!!!!

First of all, the test rankings are`nt recalculated after each game. Its calculated after the series result is out. Australia lost 8 points not on losing a single test but for losing the series 2-1 to England who at that time were ranked 5th. Hence,a team ranked No.1 losing a series to a low ranked side stands to lose a lot more points like in this case. Hence you have to work really hard to stay right up there at the top since you don`t gain a lot of points for beating low ranked sides but you tend to lose a lot of points when you lose to those sides.

The problem is that all this is looked at very quantitatively and hence may not work all that well. A No.6 ranked West Indies could be as dangerous in a particular series as a No.2 ranked Sri Lanka which can`t be accounted for in any ranking in any sport. Hence, there is nothing as a perfect ranking system and hence all rankings in all sport would be inherently flawed. This is thus the best system we have.

But according to the predictor if India(top ranked) lose to Bangladesh(lowest ranked) 2-0 they only lose 1 point

Australia lost 2 Test matches to team which is lower in rank so acc. to system Australia have lost 6 points and rest 2 points should be gained by the other team (SA or Ind) so the difference becomes 8 points.

The predictor is FAKE!!!

India get's 2 points if they win the series 2-0 but they get 6 points if they win it by 1-0 :rtfl so it clearly shows it's fake or buggy preductor

No they get +7 points for winning it 2-0, +6 for winning 1-0

^ Kindly refer a dictionary to understand the meaning of word 'fake'. :facepalm

Not real as in forge. The word is 'faulty' because none is forging anything here. Anyways, we are not here to discuss English and I DO get the message. :p

Peace.

India has clearly stuffed up money to control rankings. ;)

That is not true.

Australia had a rating of 128 or 132 or something like that before the Ashes.

The ratings were updated after the 4th Test and Australia were on 124.

Then we lost the 5th Test and our rating dropped to 116.
