Hmmm.....According to me, This should be called the Batsman's Patch, as batting with the big names like Sehwag, Sachin, Pietersen & Vaughan makes it ridiculusly easy for the Human as well as the Computer's AI to punish the bad balls...
Detailed Review:
1)Human Batting Approach
Even if a user selects the gameplay mode as Hard and bats on a Hard or a dry track especially in the sub continent, it becomes easy to hit 4's or 6's with big hitting players like Sehwag or Dhoni or for that matter Pietersen & Flintoff...but mind you the timing also plays a important role here....as even though a human palyer might be able to hit big hits...but if the timing falters on a particular shot, despite the fact that a batsman might had made 30 or 40 odd runs in quick time, the mistimed hoike/shot can always land in the fielder's hands!!!! so watch out...play every ball on it's merit....
2)Computer's Approach to Bowling
when i played a particular India Vs England on a Dry Wicket Day match (50 overs a side) at Kolkata, i was India & the cpu was England, i noticed from the very 1st Over Matt Hoggard consistenly bowled a tight line on the middle & off or just outside the offstump with enough variations of pace & swing, i was really foxed of his very 1st delivery which landed on middle stump line, i was the left handed Gambhir & i tried to work the delivery on the leg side near midwicket & square leg region....but i was severely beaten for pace & i was out LBW!!!!!
The next over was bowled by Harmison, and i noticed that the AI was trying to experiment with Harmison's Line & length, as a result of that i severly punished harmison using Sehwag and the main shot was the straight drive down the ground on the front foot..which brought me many boundaries.. when the computer tried to bowl short deliveries i was easily able to guide the ball to the fine leg fence...
But when i tried to play the advanced shots in the air..i was moderately successfull...some of the balls did manage to clear the fence or even went to the fence as 4's, but a too much over confident usage of the aerial shots proved to be my downfall and as a result from 76/3 i slumped to 123 all out!!!!
Morale...Do not take the computer's bowling lightly....from one end it will tie you into knots by bowling a tight line on & arround off stump but from the other end it will entice you to play over the top...wherein you might succeed but only for some time as if u try to go over the top a bit too much then u will be dismissed for a very low score...
All in all a good patch as far as equal competition between Bat & ball is concerned for a good ODI game
3) TAILENDER?s BATTING
Unlike other AI Patches, where a user can build a good partnership with the tailenders, this patch will really make the average user to sweat it out when batting with tailenders...as the tailenders bat like TAILENDERS... very suspectible to the inswinging yorker, and their shots suffer in timing as well, as a result an aerial shot will surely land in the fielder's hands quite easily even if the bowler bowled quite an ordinary delivery...so if you are thinking to bat well with the tailenders...THink Again...
4) MAXIMUM SCORING SHOTS
Themaximum run scoring shots in this patch are straight drives of the front foot, hip glance to fine leg, and an aerial hoike over midwicket (ideal shot in the first 15 overs)
5) EDGES
I found some great edges while batting even on a dry wicket..as this patch offers good swing movement to real life swing bowlers like Hoggard, Agarkar & Pathan
6) PITCH PARAMETERS
It?s the normal EA game?i.e, In green, more edges?.In hard, difficult to time?.In Normal?.Quite balanced between ball and bat!!!!
7) CPU?s ABILITY
Well,In this patch?CPU does not often responds to our aggressive batting!!! i.e bowling is not changed immediately if you are too aggressive(normal bowling changes are from the 21th over)
In CPU BATTING, great aggressive approach!!!! It bats good, punishes the loose balls severely & treats good bowling with respect and is difficult to take wickets!!!! So this should be a challenging feature of this patch!!!
WARNING: If you are a good lover of the cricket game, PLEASE DON?T USE LOW FULLTOSSES/IN SWINGING YORKERS to CPU because it sometimes misjudges the length and gets either bowled or LBW!!!! but it responds well after sometime and blocks these full tosses & yorkers or hooks them to the fence...n\so please do not always rely on these full tosses & yorkers to get you easy wickets..bowl with your mind...try to beat the cpu with swing in the air & off the pitch... & you might be able to get it out....
So overall, excluding this inswinging Yorkers, CPU?s approach is quite challenging!!!!
8) FIELDING
I think everyone is aware of EA?s silly miss fields!!! & sadly enough it continues even in this patch..especially in the mid on region where the cpuy misfields a lot and i never understood why the fielder at mid-wicket was always ducking!!! whenever the ball went near him, SO THIS PATCH NEED IMPROVEMENT IN REDUCING THE MISS FIELDS!!!!..but one noticeble factor is that fielder is power tweaked for each fielder...a yuvraj or KAif field brilliantly and are very good chasers and many times end up stopping the ball before it reaches the fence...but a Giles or a Harmison are slow fielders they run slowly after the ball & u can pinch easy 2's when u see that they are chasing your shot..
9) OUTFIELD
The Outfield is not fast, it's generally slow..but that was expected as Tutsi himself said that Slowness of the Outfield was a generic feature of this patch.
SUMMARY
1) BATTING is made easier with good timing.
2) TIMING FACTOR plays a major role.
3) BOWLING to CPU is a challenging one(excluding those Yorkers which I mentioned)
4) Batting with some STRATEGY of your own one will lead to a good match like a real game!!!(Like, Don?t try to hit boundaries always?etc?)
5) Different pitches requires different strategies.
APPRECIATION
1) Timing factor takes the game close to reality
2) Rotating the strike is not that easy especially if the cpu is bowling continuous yorkers or an off stump line as your shot can sometimes o to the boundary but it can also be blocked by the fielders in the Cover-Point Area..
3) Front foot Cover drives & straight drives are good.
NEEDING IMPROVEMENT
1) Fielding bug can be reduced to some extent
2) CPU misjudges the Yorker length sometimes...
3) Legside single making shots needs some power.
4) Backfoot offside shot needs improvement.
5) Pull shot needs little improvement.
CONCLUSION
Overall this patch is good for ODIs?Remember uncertainity has developed now a days in ODIs?.. So expect any thing might happen at any time in one day matches? if you take unneccesary risks while batting or bowling So this patch is ideally suited for ODI's
