England captain Michael Vaughan is keen to move down the batting order to number three to allow Andrew Strauss his preferred position as an opener.

The 33-year-old, who passed 5000 Test runs last year, struggled in England's recent tour of New Zealand averaging only 20.50 in the three-Test series.

Vaughan told BBC's Inside Sport programme: "Strauss is at three and I think he likes opening.

"In an ideal world, I would bat at three. That might happen."

I think tension could arise because of this. Vaughan says he "thinks" Strauss like opening. I would like to know what Strauss thinks of this.

Can be. Because, Strauss can do the damage early on or can get damaged. :p.

Sensible move and what everyone else was hoping for.

Staruss is obviously an opener. He prefers fast bowling to spin and Vaughan is a brilliant No.3. He had a good partnership with Tres but Vaughan and Cook just don't go. He's a lot more comfortable coming in after the first wicket.

I would be the most happy person of the world now.
Hows that Sureshot?..lol..:p

I love to see him in his orignal position. And I know he will turn things toward him in upcoming series.
Anyway I still belive I don't want to see Strauss on expance of England's defeat. So I hope He won't disappoint n
me/us!.:p

Yeah the change is the right decision, but if Strauss fails the NZ series then I would have Shah in though since he's scored runs everywhere recently.

Strauss is in decent form at 3 atm, the 177 in the final test and a nice score in the last FP Trophy game, he's certainly in better form than Michael Vaughan. I'd still rather see Strauss at 2 though, even if the Vaughan-Cook partnership is going well at the current time, I just feel Strauss is better suited at 3. Maybe even bring Pietersen in at 3 if Strauss fails and bring Shah in at 4 or 5.

Completely agree with that. Move Strauss to two and make this NZ Series the make or break one. Shah has been waiting for too long now and deserves a chance if Strauss mucks up

I'd put Vaughan at 3. Never change a winning team and all that, but he should still bat 3.

God I really Hate Strauss!!

lol..Many people do.
But You should not Mate.
he has played some helpful knock in past for England. It just he was not in good touch after 2006 september.
Now Tie has changed,Let see him against South Africa.:)
