I saw the video and it was kinda scary, the sad thing is the crowd member deserved it all, he kept on taunting him throughout it!

You say that. But surely Vermeulan would experience worse taunts in international cricket matches from the fans? Club cricket isnt that well attended by fans and usually its old men who follow their village/club side.

I stand by my initial thoughts. I dont think he deserves any sympathy and the ban of 10 years should stand.

The possibility of someone getting seriously injured is there, not sure about dieing, but anyway yes, it's a terrible thing that has happened in English club cricket. I have also noticed that he has appealed against the ban, but has not apologised or anything. This shows me he is not taking responsibility for his actions and the ban should stay put. I would expect better from a 20 year old, let alone a 27 year old. He will have also been being paid to play, and that's how he thanks the club, by tarnishing their name.

Don't be so certain on the dying bit.

If it hit them in the temple, or if they suffered from epilepsy and got hit in the head, or had a heart problem and got hit in the heart area of the ribs.

Who knows.

Vermeulen acted in an appauling manner, 10 years may be harsh. He's almost likely to get it reduced in an appeal though.

10 years is probably a bit harsh but he did act like a complete dick.

He should probably get a 1 or 2 year ban from English cricket and maybe a fine of say a ?500 to ?1000. The fine could be donated to charity or some other worthwhile cause.

Though its rare I've seen a few incidents like this and it normally always involves the club pro! From shouting matches on the boundary to the mooning of about 40 spectators - not nice but its sport and emotions do get stirred.

I do agree it's a disgraceful act from a Pro, setting a terrible example to the younger members of the club. However I can't decide if 10 years is too harsh or not. On the one hand it is not from all cricket is it? Just from England I believe so it is effectively saying, for doing that you can sod off and go play your cricket elsewhere, which is fair enough I think. I do think that 5 years seems more reasonable though.

Well, I am appauled, but Vermeulan's had his ban reduced to a 3 year ban from England with 2 years suspended. Don't really know what that 2 years suspended means but anyway, he says he is going to appeal it even more.

Sounds like it means that its a 1 year ban but if he does anything else and is found guilty when he comes back after that year then he is instantly banned for another 2 years.

Now I've had a chance to read the story it appears that he has a 3 year ban with a further 2 years suspended - meaning that that if he plays up again he could receive a total of 5 years.

This is more like it and should make players think twice before going off on one.

Not quite, it's a three year ban with two of the three years suspended. In other words, he's banned for one year, and if he plays up again after the ban is over, he gets another two years.

Although the lawyer is insisting on trying to get it reduced by more.

If you are talking about the man that wrestled him to the floor when Mark Vermeulen picked up a boundary spike, he was just restraining him. Vermeulen was very angry, somebody could have been hurt if he was not stopped.

27 years 206 days is his current age, 10 year, peh.
