Wales break away from the ECB and become the 11th Test playing nation

In a joint press conference by the CBW, ECB and ICC, it was announced the Cricket Board of Wales, would now become a independent body, breaking away from the formely known England and Wales Cricket Board. In simple terms Wales was now cricket wise, independent from England. But what came as a surprise was that the ICC also announced that the new indpendent cricket body of Wales, was not just to be a member, and a official ODI member, but also to become the 11th Test nation.

Wales will officially become a separate ODI and Test nation, and full member of the ICC on 1st May 2007. Until then Wales will be a associate member, playing exhibition one day matches leading up to then. Also, this means players like Simon Jones and Geraint Jones will play for Wales, no longer for England. Strangely, Glamorgan will continue to play in the English first class game, but also a new Welsh first class county league will come into existance. A playing schedule is soon to be announced, and the only confirmed test ground at the moment is Cardiff, and also headquarters, and the kits suppliers will be new company Foro Sports, owned by the Ager consortium, and sponsored by Brains beer

Maynard takes the reins in the new beginning

It was announced that the world's latest test nation will be coached by ex-Glamorgan batsman, Matthew Maynard. He has signed a four month contract with the Cricket Board of Wales, and he takes up his role immediately, and his first task will be to announce Wales's first international squad on 4th May. His previous role of batting coach for England has been controversially taken by rookie coach, Simon Barrow.

What can i say, rookie? Ive had more experience as a batting coach than a cow has grazing!

Seriously, this is looking good, just yet to see how you lay out your updates but im sure they will be excellent! Great work Ager

Thanks for the support people, progress may be slow because now I have 2 stories going on, and loads of school work

good to see Maynard as coach of wales after his many seasons at glamorgan.

Good idea Ager! :) Good Luck! :happy

After the World Cup, and now with full ICC membership, Wales' inagural test match is against the old enemy, England on 3rd May in Cardiff. On the announcement of the itinenary, Matthew Maynard said: "It's a tough schedule, but being not just a international cricket side, but a full test side, you've got to be prepared for that. We will be approaching these games with no fear, and we can't wait till our first match against Bangladesh next month, and our first Test against our nextdoor neighbours in May!"
