Who will captain South Africa?

I'd LOVE to see AB become the captain. He is such a boss player.

I don't know why Smith would quit though. I think he made this call by considering Ponting's situation and form atm. But if Smith's form ever gets there, he wont be able to stay in the team like Ponting. So if he wanted to play longer, he should have stayed as the captain, that kinda sorta gives you a fix spot in the team.

But if you are struggling as captain then it might affect your batting and if your struggling with the bat it can affect your captaincy.
I honestly think that it was just too much for him. Being the captain in all formats and opening the innings in all formats. He will still stay as test captain and that gives him longevity there and it will make it easier for him to concentrate on his batting.

Considering how long he has been captaining South Africa, it would be refreshing for him to just settle down and focus solely on his batting and not have to worry much about anything else.

As for who would be his replacement, probably Botha IMO. de Villiers is a good candidate but he seems to like focusing on his batting. He was reluctant to really put his hand up as a long term replacement for Boucher with regards to the gloves.

Yea, I think most people saw that coming. Obvious choice really considering Botha captained the side when Smith was out injured.

Kallis is way too old now. I'd rather just have him finish his career being the best batsman he possibly can. No reason in putting extra responsibility on him now. AB is now becoming the batsman that he was destined to be. And to give him the captaincy might actually be a step backwards for him in terms of utilizing his full potential. He is still young and I think he should be named VC first and by 2013, he should be given the captaincy of both T20's and ODI's.
