Windows 7 - Will it be the best of Microsoft?

Then check if your school is part of MSDNAA, you may already have the rights to download it. RTM = retail version.

Not exactly, RTM = Release to Manufacture. In this phase if they find some ground breaking bug they still might make changes before going retail.

I always thought that MSDN was paid and we infact had to pay MS to test their products? :p

So what HomeGroup feature like. I have read reviews that Window 7 is heaven made for Pirates. :p

You need to be an IT professional to downkoad the RTM version atm. But you can still get the RC free till march.
Nope, the RC downloads are shutting down today, apparently, in about 1 hour. They were supposed to go down on Aug 15, though.

It is paid. But most large companies pay for volume licensing for their employees so that each employee doesn't have to pay for a subscription.

I have a peculiar problem with Windows 7 RC. When I transfer from USB device to another, 99% of the time it gets stuck at a point and then the computer hangs up indefinitely (even the ALT-CTRL-DEL doesnt work) and I have to do a cold reboot of the PC to start from the first again. This doesnt happen with Vista (which is my original OS of the computer). I have an external HD which stores almost all of my music and movies. When I transfer music from my external to my Ipod touch, this happens. So I have to transfer it first to my PC, and then from PC to Ipod (which is a lot of work).

Can anyone tell me what my problem could be? I have a AMD Athlon Dual Core 1.86GHz processor, 4GB of RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate RC (64-bit), NVIDIA GeForce 7150M, HP Pavilion dv6604nr laptop.

Simplifying it for him. Knowing the acronym doesn't help much.

Running Win 7 RC now, finally got all my hardware working. My TV card took ages, but Media Centre is much smoother for me than on the Beta. Using IE as well, now that I've used the fancy tab features, I can't use Firefox on it.

No i meant that the RC lasts to march before it begins to shutdown/expire.

but yeh, it costs to subscribe to Tech net and MSDN to download the RTM.

Apparently there is system command which can extend your 30 day grace period to 120 days in Windows 7 and Windows Vista. Don't know if I am allowed to mention it so I leave you guys to Google it.

I'm not sure of the legality of it, but the fact that you can only do it 3 times suggests that Microsoft may have built it in with reason.

Anyways, I just clean-installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RTM on my computer. It took 24 minutes and 25.6 seconds to go from clicking next and starting the installation to getting a usable desktop. Brilliant, I say! Although now I need to figure out why it decided that my graphics card isn't good enough for Aero. :p

Yeh, microsoft actually announced this themselves, when they release windows 7 a user will get 30 days free like normal but will have the opportunity to add 30 more days 3 times if they follow a tutorial from the MS website.

Why they built this in i don't know.

Because corporate trials are longer than regular user ones. I think the Sever 2008 trial defaults to 180 days.

This is not new, the same is present in Vista as well.

From my brief research,

- More stable. Although Vista + SP is pretty good.
- More support for older hardware!
- Better security
- Optimized for multi-core processors
- Optimized for solid state device (SSD) hard drives

If the above points aren't important to you it's probably not a worthwhile upgrade. It's more pretty though :laugh
