Windows 7 - Will it be the best of Microsoft?

DX11 is different from DX10 or DX10.1 at architectural level I think. To use DX11 features like Grid 2 would exploit, you'll NEED a card that supports DX11, at the moment being only the Radeon 5000 series. Kind of like the situation when DX10 first came out. Games will continue to support older stuff too, while enabling better eye candy on newer API's and technologies.

Windows 7 RC has DX11 installed, doesn't mean all games make use of DX11. It still has old DX10 and DX9 files in it to ensure backwards compatibility and those are what are used in older games.

This Call of Juarez patch was supposed to improve the graphics to DX10 standard, but it appears to look exactly the same under Win 7 RC as it does under XP (I've looked in the graphics menu for a DX10 option, no sign of it).

Although DX10 makes games look better, is it true that it also improves the performance, due to different coding or something?

In my experience, it has enhanced the application looks but obviously that is in exchange for a bit of sheer power...

Windows 7 needs more improvement to beat XP. According to me XP is much more user friendly than 7

In my opinion, Windows 7 wipes the floor with XP. I use XP at work and Windows 7 at home so I get a pretty good usage of both systems every day. And there is absolutely no doubt that I prefer Windows 7.

I dont find any difference at all with Windows XP and Windows 7 (with Vista, I used to find XP more safer and faster) and also Windows 7 is more attractive to the eye and has the 'feel good factor' than XP which now looks more outdated. Personally, Windows 7 >>> XP

I've gone well and truely off XP, the interface is too old and I'm use to the Windows 7/Vista one. All those little features like thumbnail preview for programs you have opened in the start bar, to accessing different folders from the location bar to the more compact start menu.

Windows 7 really owns XP. XP's interface is old now, even sluggish at times, and I love the new start menu even though it came with Vista too.

Besides, technically 7 is so superior that it feels wrong to use XP now.

Windows 7 is meant to be better than XP and Vista. Why are you getting so emotional.

just got the full windows 7 ultimate version (32bit) from college for 20 bucks only. clean installed it in my laptop. i previously had vista which ****** up my laptop pretty well! it took 2 mins to start when i first bought the laptop (2 years ago). and a coupld of days ago it was taking around 10-15 mins to start!! so format the whole drive....clean installed winows 7 (which literally took me about 10 mins to install and another 10 mins to set up the other stuffs before i could see my desktop screen). and i m amazed by the speed now!! takes around 20 seconds to start the laptop....shutting down takes around 5 seconds. and ofcourse everything else is super fast too. when i had vista, installing ashes 2009 took around 30 mins. but in 7 it took 10 mins at max :P i m loving it! the only problem i had is it couldnt install my graphics card (geforce 7150/chipset nforce 630). and i searched nvidia and they did not have the driver for windows 7 either. so i kept looking around and found out this driver which is called "179.48_notebook_winvista_32bit_beta" and it works like a charm for some reason! so i m all set for now :D

ohh and i have amd turion 64x2 1.9GHz
and
2GB ram

ohh another cool thing is when i tried out that rating by microsoft about windows experience i got a 3.2 base score. i know its not much. but the amazing part is with vista i had a base score of only 2.2 in the same system. now the graphics card and gaming graphics score has improved significantly :D

An NVIDIA-provided driver should work. I found one over here. Released on October 5th (11 days ago).

Thought it was a few more days until it was released?
Can someone confirm that I will have to format my HD to install the full version rather than the RC.
