6th July 2012

New Australian ODI and T20 capatin George Bailey is set to miss the five match ODI series against Sri Lanka. George Bailey had a slight niggle in his right hamstring and Alex Kountouris said 'We do not want to risk George getting his injury worse, he cam out of training earlier today saying that he had a slight niggle in his hamstring. The results from his scan will come back on Sunday but he is likely to miss all five of the ODI matches.'

Former ODI Michael Clarke looks likely he will come back into the Australian side at number 4 and he will also captain Australia in the ODI Series. It looks like new Australian coah will be fielding a strong team for the first couple of ODIs. He said 'Warner and Watson will definately be opening to give us a strong lead from the top. Also its likely Michael Hussey will be at number 3 with David Hussey in at 5.'

Michael Clarke spoke to ESPNCricinfo Press and said 'George Bailey is a great man and a very enthuastic man and he will be doing everything to get back in this side. He is a very agile and athletic man.'

When we asked Clarke about the captaincy he said 'Its not the right time at the moment and its something I would not like to talk about right now.'

Australia win first T20
6th July 2012

Australia have won the first of two International T20 against Sri Lanka. The Aussies beat Sri Lanka by 5 wickets, and Australian batsman Shane Watson gathered man of the match for a magnificent 72 not out and claiming two of the ten Sri Lankan wickets.

The new look Australia looked in fantastic form after getting Sri Lanka down to 168 for 6 off their 20 overs. Captain David Hussey congratulated his squad for a tremendous effort with the ball as Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene was looking between 180 and 200 on a wonderful batting surface. George Bailey was dropped for this T20 after been named the captain for the both ODI and T20 sides. David Hussey showed great experience with field and ball after getting Sri Lankans down to a 'reasonable score' said Hussey after the Sri Lankan innings.

Sri Lanka's innings got off to a great start with openers Tharanga Paranavitana and Tillakeratne Dilshan making 26 and 40 respectively. But when Shane Watson broke the partnership bowling Paranivitana the whole innings stop came to a stop. Mathews and Dilshan couldnt seem to get the boundaries which were needed. Then when Dilshan was bowled out for 40 by experienced spinner Jason Krejza, Mahela Jayawardene came in and knocked a good 32 off 20 balls.

Then young all rounder Steven Smith came into the attack and got Mathews lbw and Jayawardene went in the deep caught by Dan Christian. Wicket keeper Kumar Sangakkara was the next into the crease and he made a very handy 31 before he was run out by David Hussey. Bowlers Suraj Randiv and Nuwan Kulasekara both came into the crease late on in the game and struggled to get boundaries and the Sri Lanka's ended up an par score of 168 for 4.

David Warner and Shaun Marsh opened the batting for the Aussies. The run chase didnt start of the greatest when Warner was caught by Dilshan at slip off Kulasekaras bowling. But was getting that wicket a good thing? Shane Watson came into the crease and was hitting boundaries everywhere and batted extremely well hitting a magnificent 72 not out. Other batsmen were helping Watson out at the other end with opener Shaun Marsh hitting 40 before being caught by Chandimal off Heraths bowling. Michael Hussey chipped in with a quick fire 18 before him David Hussey and Matthew Wade all went very cheaply. Herath claimed his second wicket after trapping Michael Hussey lbw, and Thilan Thushara claimed two very quick wickets to boost Sri Lankas confidence. Shane Watson hit the winning runs for Australia in a thrilling T20 game in Colombo, Sri Lanka
