England face inform Pakistan.
Englands first series of the year is against the inform Pakistan. Both sides are inform after England completed a 4 - 0 series whitewash against India in their last series. Whilst Pakistan have come from 2 - 0 series whitewash against Bangladesh. Both side will not be playing in their home countries, therefore, they will both be playing the 3 tests, 4 ODIs and 3 T20s in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Coach Andy Flower says 'we will not be taking these games easy, we do not want to lose our no. 1 spot and we want to stay as the best test team in the world. We struggle against teams down under and we want to put that right by beating Pakistan'. Both countries have selected their squads for the upcoming test in Dubai.

Shock team news for England as left arm spinner Monty Panesar is included in the fifteen man squad after been left out of the squad since 2009. Also Tim Bresnan has been sent home with a shoulder injury and will miss the series so Durham pace bowler Graham Onions has had the call to join up with the squad in Dubai. The only trouble is now will England go with 5 bowlers and who will they drop?

Onions and Panesar in the XI.
Anderson injured.

Graham Onions and Monty Panesar both make the team for the first test in Dubai. Onions comes in for the injured Anderson who will miss the first test with a back strain. Onions perfomed well in last seasons County Championship and has earned his placed in the side according to coach Andy Flowers, but do you think it was the right choice putting Onions in the side before the likes of Tremlett, Bresnan or Dernbach?

England have also decided that it was the right option to go with two spinners in the first test. Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar will be the two spin bowlers in the side, Monty has impressed the England selectors after taking a five wicket haul in the warm up matches.

was it the right choice to include Onions in the side?

Toss:
Pakistan won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Captain Andrew Strauss said 'its a shame that we lost the toss, we wanted to bowl first. But hopefully we will adapt to the surface and set a good first innings total'

Pakistan captain Mohammed Hafeez said 'we are bowling first to hopefully put pressure on England. They have not adapted well in the warm up matches and we are looking to bowl them out for a small total, hopefully our bowlers can perform to the top of their abilities'

Lunch:
England, 30 overs, 86/0, Strauss 47* and Cook 35*

England going extremely well in the conditions that are given, the ball is spinner a lot from what we have seen in the couple of overs that we have had from Ajmal. Cook was dropped on 14 by keeper Akmal off Guls bowling, how crucial could that be. Strauss looking very comfortable at the crease at the moment with him only 3 off his half century. Cook looks also settled at the crease on 35*. It looks like England maybe setting up a big total.

England set good first innings total
330 all out.

England have finished there first innings in the first test and have set a reasonable score off 330 all out. Captain Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook got England off to a great start with them knocking a 96 run partnership. Strauss got his fifty just after lunch before he managed to get his first ton in 2012 and first ton since the Ashes in 2010. Bell and Morgan also hit fifties for England before they were both given out off Ajmals bowling. Monty Panesar came in at no. 7 as night watchmen with nly 4 overs of the day left and Monty served the rest of the day and was at the crease the next morning.
