Rassie van der Dussen, a man who had the unenviable task of replacing the retired AB de Villiers in both the South African lineup and here as well proved his doubters wrong in the best way possible with runs on the board. Having only played in this game owing to Ben Stokes' untimely injury, he scored 140 off only 119 balls by first accumulating and then later cutting loose to punish the Harriers' bowlers at the death. Mitchell Starc's 2 for 54 off 10 overs were the best figures of the day on an absolute road where Richie Berrington and Daryl Mitchell also made merry with scores in the 80s, as the Highlanders posted a sizeable 348 off their 50 overs. But the Harriers came dangerously close to pulling off what would have been the most sensational heist that could have done even Sergio Marquina proud. Right from the very start of their innings they batted with the intent to chase down their 349-run target, with skipper David Warner leading from the front with a blazing 87 off just 63 balls in a quickfire 159-run partnership with Colin Ackermann, who himself scored 113 off 102 balls. Timely breakthroughs from Safyaan Sharif, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah however, along with a couple of needless run outs swung things back in the Highlanders favor.
Still, one last mad dash by Pieter Seelaar in his final Europa Cup game where he brought up a maiden fifty off just 27 balls saw them come within 10 runs of their target which seemed quite implausible at one stage. Ultimately, it wasn't to be as Mitchell Starc was cleaned up by Alasdair Evans in the final over with the Harriers basically a couple of hits away from victory. So ended the defence of their Season IV title at long last. Season III finalists Highland Barbarians and Malahide Mavericks shall now contest the right to play Continental United in the final.

Explanation on pitch types
Damp/Sticky - Massively in favor of bowlers and an absolute nightmare to bat on, unless you're Victor Trumper.
Dusty - Plenty of turn on offer for spinners and a good place to bat for spin-savvy batsmen. Good pace bowlers are still likely to thrive.
Evenly balanced - Provides an evenly balanced contest for all disciplines.
Flat - A batsman-friendly pitch which provides little or no assistance to bowlers. Expect big totals.
Green - A lot of movement on offer early on, which makes it ideal for bowlers capable of swinging the ball. Batting expected to become easier as the match progresses.
Hard - Ideal conditions for batting. Good deal of bounce on offer for fast bowlers as well. Could go either way
Dry/Slow - Ideal for slow and spin bowlers as the name suggests. Sometimes quite difficult to bat on.
Poor - Uneven bounce and a huge amount of turn on offer for spinners. Expect a slow hard grind where most batsmen rarely score at above 3 an over.

Damp/Sticky - Massively in favor of bowlers and an absolute nightmare to bat on, unless you're Victor Trumper. Dusty - Plenty of turn on offer for spinners and a good place to bat for spin-savvy batsmen. Good pace bowlers are still likely to thrive. Evenly balanced - Provides an evenly balanced contest for all disciplines. Flat - A batsman-friendly pitch which provides little or no assistance to bowlers. Expect big totals. Green - A lot of movement on offer early on, which makes it ideal for bowlers capable of swinging the ball. Batting expected to become easier as the match progresses. Hard - Ideal conditions for batting. Good deal of bounce on offer for fast bowlers as well. Could go either way Dry/Slow - Ideal for slow and spin bowlers as the name suggests. Sometimes quite difficult to bat on. Poor - Uneven bounce and a huge amount of turn on offer for spinners. Expect a slow hard grind where most batsmen rarely score at above 3 an over.

So ended one of the most thrilling games in Europa Cup history, if not the most thrilling. Surely George Dockrell won't be batted as low as No 9 like the old days after this earth-shattering effort that could have made the likes of Lance Klusener proud.
It was the end of the road for the Highland Barbarians as far as Season V is concerned. It was also the end of the road for Kyle Coetzer, the most prolific run-scorer in the history of the Europa Cup who retired with 1587 runs at an average of 49.59 with 4 centuries and 11 fifties to his name, whilst striking at a very respectable 85.74 runs per 100 balls. As of now, his stunning haul of 552 runs at 69.00 in Season III still remains the most by a batter in a season, and he once also possessed the record for fastest Europa Cup hundred off 58 balls against the Edinburgh Bulls in Season II before it was obliterated by a certain Glenn Maxwell.
