Defending champions Sydney put up one of their worst performances with the bat in living memory, getting bundled out for 135 before even reaching the 40-over mark as Mitchell Starc and Jason Behrendorff made merry with 4 wickets apiece. There were hardly any demons in the wicket, except for the ones the batters created themselves with poor shot selection.

It was a day for overcoming past bogeys as Babar Azam also managed to break his 90s jinx in the ELA at long last to reach three figures for the very first time in the league. He looked largely untroubled at the crease and made batting look ridiculously easy whilst accumulating his way to an unbeaten 131 off 124 balls. WCF eventually made it to 340 courtesy of their Tongan-born Dutch-Aussie skipper Scott Edwards' useful cameo of 34 in just 26 balls at the close.

Despite a strong start at the top provided by Usman Khawaja and Quinton de Kock, Hobart fell by the wayside in the middle-order once again and slid to their second defeat in as many matches. Mohammed Shami proved a tad expensive but found himself among the wickets yet again with figures of 3 for 56 off his 8 overs, and was well supported by a rejuvenated Henry Thornton, who managed to recover from a nightmarish first outing of the season in the previous game to finish with respectable figures of 2 for 52 off 10 overs this time around.

Entering high in confidence following a big victory in their only pre-season match, the ACT Comets were soon subjected to the harsh realities of the main event itself as David Warner bludgeoned his second century in as many matches, scoring 138 off just 118 balls in a power-packed innings containing 8 sixes. If that wasn't bad enough, Aiden Markram added further salt to their wounds by cutting loose at the death with a 58-ball 72, during which he all but obliterated their attack leader Trent Boult by carting him for 3 sixes in an over. Boult's figures of 2 for 79 off 9 overs pretty much summed up Canberra's day.

It was a debut straight out of nightmares for Canberra, who were given a brutal 203-run hiding at the hands of a seasoned bowling attack featuring Pat Cummins, Matt Henry and Rashid Khan among others. Their only bright spot was Heinrich Klaasen's better than a run-a-ball knock of 56 where he only briefly took the fight to the opposition before fizzing out.

Sydney Roosters vs Melbourne Storm at North Sydney Oval, North Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Sweet, sweet revenge :teeth:
Beautiful pummeling after all those losses to them, and the 4-run loss in the last round.

Explanation on pitch types

:bwl::down: Damp/Sticky - Massively in favor of bowlers and an absolute nightmare to bat on, unless you're Victor Trumper.
:left::right: Dusty - Plenty of turn on offer for spinners and a good place to bat for spin-savvy batsmen. Good pace bowlers are still likely to thrive.
:ar::up: Evenly balanced - Provides an evenly balanced contest for all disciplines.
:bat::left: Flat - A batsman-friendly pitch which provides little or no assistance to bowlers. Expect big totals.
:bwl::up: Green - A lot of movement on offer early on, which makes it ideal for bowlers capable of swinging the ball. Batting expected to become easier as the match progresses.
:ar::left: Hard - Ideal conditions for batting. Good deal of bounce on offer for fast bowlers as well. Could go either way
:right::left: Dry/Slow - Ideal for slow and spin bowlers as the name suggests. Sometimes quite difficult to bat on.
:down: Poor - Uneven bounce and a huge amount of turn on offer for spinners. Expect a slow hard grind where most batsmen rarely score at above 3 an over.
